Good to see Luke making the best of what he was blessed with.

Trust me. I know from first hand experience that you don't need to be very smart to collect a few degrees.

Throw the book at him. His attempted ‘tackle’ in 2012 verses Souths won them a last minute victory against us. I’ve hated the prick ever since. There is two parts to rugby league. Attack AND defence. I say hang the prick!

Apologies for the rambling/rants. Ironically, in person I'm a very concise/formal/polite/measured person. I suspect there may be an element of over-compensation on my behalf when I'm online

Also... I thumb out all my rants on my mobile phone FWIW. Make of that what you will.

Yeah I'm living proof of that. If some random whackjob who sits around thumbing out nutty rants on the 'Pen can do his law degree (plus marry a decent lawyer & find gainful employment, while putting away enough coin for a few houses...etc) then so can you, children

Was saying this with my wife yesterday pretty much as we have a family friend who's struggling to get 2 kids to shake a leg (both got ATARs of ~85, enrolled in uni and then dropped out... now they just sit at home doing jack all and getting all angry when told to do basic things like come out to say 'hi' when guests are over).

Keary went to ACPE right? I think it has a pretty low bar to entry but has a good reputation for being practical and stuff (lotsa athletes both pro and aspiring go there... I think Cook and RTS are two other examples... I think a few previous gen players like Brett Kelly + Benn Robinson from yawnion did too as I did a bit of tutoring out there back in the day & saw them around). There's stuff like that and while I'd say RTS/Keary/Cook...etc are all significantly more gifted than Fergo in the brains department, lotsa tertiary institutions would pull strings for him! Like if Fergo rocked up and said 'I'm an indigenous fella, my mum's a neglectful junkie and I STILL somehow played footy for Australia + won an NRL premiership' then they'd find a pathway for him.

He hasn't had the advantage of a coddled upbringing (like what I had in comparison) and he's made lotsa dumb mistakes. However, he's smarter than me IMO. Last time I checked, I haven't won an NRL premiership or played for Australia. I'm just some random, mediocre lawyer who thumbs out rants on the 'Pen. The fact I've stayed outta trouble and don't go around sniffing drugs doesn't mean I'm smarter than Fergo. Just means I had a middle-class upbringing with a strict wog family that wouldn't tolerate that kinda shyte.

Fergo played well for us but was bad at the eels, sad to see him get arrested.

Ah yes, what to do with two kids who dropped out of uni and now just sit around doing nothing.

My way would be...I would tell them I love them (can't see any point in raising them for 20 + years then booting them out)....that the family budget is very tight, everything is very expensive, and I don't have any money to spend....only have money for essentials.

Still in the can and facing five years. Serious business.

The reaction of his club there speaks volumes for the climate when it comes to drugs. He’s in for a rough ride.

I would give them one month to get a job, start paying a realistic rent, behave like human beings, or GET DA FUUK OUT. That's what a responsible adult would do, they will never stand up if you let them lay down forever

According to my wife the Japanese media are reporting that Fergo did not actually hit anyone. They are saying that he got into some kind of argument with another patron and for whatever reason Fergo and this other patron went to the police station regarding the matter. It was at this point that the drugs were found. Also the rugby clubs have now implemented regular drug testing for foreign players directly as a result of this incident.

Like you said, he is still in a cell. Thats why we have not had any real updates, information or even comment from Fergo. If they decide to charge him and there is a trial it seems Fergo will be stuck in limbo for quite some time.

The NEC Green Rockets, the former home to ex-NRL winger Blake Ferguson, have vowelled to remain in the Japan Top League despite fears the former Eels' alleged drug-related antics could have seen the club fold.
With Japan's stern drug laws placing immense pressure on the club, the fallout of Ferguson's actions could see major ramifications on the rugby union side.
Initial fears suggested the Green Rockets could be forced to fold, however the club has since expressed its hope to play in the League One opening round this week.
The Tokatsu side have since looked to patch up their broken image, with the Green Rockets set to donate proceeds from the upcoming season to aid the league's battle to further prevent illegal drugs within the competition.

The club confirmed the strict measures they have begun to take since Ferguson's contract was torn up, also having all players undertake drug tests.
"We deeply apologize for the arrest of Blake Ferguson, a former contract player of NEC Green Rockets Tokatsu, on December 30, 2021 for a serious violation of the law of possession of illegal drugs," the statement reads. "We will continue to fully cooperate with police investigations.
"Until now, the team has been thoroughly observing compliance and calling attention on a daily basis, but as a result, it must be said that efforts such as disseminating and thoroughly disseminating to new contract players were insufficient.
"This time, as an emergency measure, we have already conducted drug tests by an external organization on all the players and staff of the team, and confirmed that all the test results are negative.
"In addition, after explaining compliance to all athletes in the presence of an outside lawyer, we conducted individual hearings and obtained a written oath. In the future, we will carry out regular drug tests and compliance training for all athletes, and conduct thorough background checks including drug tests when contracting new athletes."
The Green Rockets added they will look to regain the trust of their following and the rest of the competition when they begin their 2022 Japan Top League campaign.
"As a result of careful consideration based on this situation, we will strive to restore trust by playing with all our strength, and we will fulfill our responsibility for sports promotion such as rugby and regional revitalization," the statement continues.
"We have decided to participate in the opening round of RUGBY LEAGUE ONE.
"As a matter of course, we are seriously aware of the concerns and inconveniences caused to the league, related parties, and fans due to this matter, so a part of the profits of the host game of this term will be used as an absolute measure against illegal drugs in the league.
"At the extremely important time when the opening of JAPAN RUGBY LEAGUE ONE is imminent, we have caused a great deal of concern and inconvenience to everyone involved, and everyone who has been supporting and supporting the team on a daily basis. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment. We will work together as a team to restore the trust of everyone as soon as possible."
According to multiple reports, former Wallabies coach and current Green Rockets head Michael Cheika's job security in Japan has been severely hindered.
It is also understood that Australian staff with Tokatsu are also fearing for their own future at the club.

They might never come back...never contact again, ever.
I'd go the let them lay down, " we are a family" route...hoping sooner or later they'd need money for cars, phones, computers, clothes etc.
