You know Mick, sometimes, for some (not me!), money is a second goal. If we are to believe Tedesco came here for less because of the club he loves, then we believe it. Perhaps Connor is willing to bide his time to be in a successful club..Who knows, only he does.

Maybe we can learn from how the Storm have handled Munster? Very similar situation...

80 Minute hooker as captain, rep FB, established halves...etc and a talented utility still contracted for a few years.

IMO our plan may have been to play him at 5/8 or FB... until Keary and Tedesco approached us. This year we are currently a top-4 team. Add Tedesco to the mix and we are possibly a premiership-winning team.

We are a VERY attractive team for young players wanting experience. The opportunity to play footy with our calibre of players is a massive pull factor for players and we'll be looking to captialise on this by using this pull factor to sign players CHEAPLY! 'You want a premiership ring, a place in the Origin team and an awesome reputation? Talk to Boyd, he can tell you about the NSW Origin team. Play here for a couple of years on $250k and you'll be set for life afterwards...'

While I think Watson could be used better... what's his best option? He's gotta decide whether he's a good enough half to make the Knights a competitive team, or whether Training with our team/structure is better. While he isn't getting the gametime, he can probably get paid upwards of $200k a year (for a 21 y/o remember!) to train with our 1sts, have Joey as his personal coach and get lots of bonding time with guys like Cords, Fergo, Tedesco, JWH, Friend...etc. Every week he's one injury/suspension away from playing 1sts and he's guaranteed gametime around Origin.

Tough choice, but the grass is always greener. I hope he's willing to think long-term and play out another ~4 years with us to see what happens. Yes your career could end tomorrow, but IMO that's gonna be more likely if he goes to Newcastle, gets a reputation as an ordinary half, moves sideways a few times and then gets left to rot. With Easts, he could be on the bench during a grand final, be instrumental in bagging a premiership ring and then have much better clubs than Newcastle knocking on his door with some serious dinero.

simple decision really. do you join the ROOSTERS dynasty and play for grand finals or do you play for cash and never see a gf ring

No way we make the same mistake we did with Maloney,I'm sure the club is smarter than that!
          Keary is a keeper..

Watson can't play 6 cause Keary is better. His only chance of a spot is on the wing next year. I realise you can't just throw him anywhere but surely a trained fullback can adapt to wing play pretty easily.

Some on here suggest Watson should stay cause he may win a comp. I highly doubt that anything but money is the motivator for a young bloke with limited earning potential in a short career. He will go to whoever offers the most dollars just like most people would. We can't keep them all unfortunately.

When you are a youngster and a footballer, you really want to play footy. You dont do much of that sitting on the bench for 70 mins. If another club offers good money, which they will, he will probably go. I wouldnt be surprised if Johns will be a personal mentor available for a phone call and one on ones if Watson leaves, especially if it is the Knights.

                  I reckon he'd make a good centre.

                  1. Teddy
                  2. Toops
                  3. Latrell
                  4. Watson
                  5. Manu

Watson is a spine player & will be offered a spine position at either Newcastle, Tigers or maybe Parra & paid accordingly. If you are a player who can play anywhere in the spine you are not going to play wing or centre.

Oh for sure!!! While I see the value in staying, there's this too. Also who knows... Newcastle could be a top 8 team in the near future. Think:
                      1. Gagai
                      2. Sio
                      3. Bondi Hipster
                      4. SKD
                      5. Matty Utai
                      6. Lamb
                      7. Hodkinson
                      8. Esse'esse
                      9. Watson
                      10. Starling
                      11. Saifiti
                      12. Yates
                      13. Guerra

They've got a solid spine and could definitely push for a top 8 spot with the right coaching and a few powerhouse polynesian forwards.

$400k+ and a guaranteed 80 minutes every week is attractive. Lesser teams give you some feedom to show a bit of flare and take risks too (e.g. Hayne and Teddy got their reputation that way).
