  • Connor Watson

I am still seeing speculation that we are going to lose him most probably to Newcastle. To say that I am disgusted is putting it mildly. I believe he will be a "superstar" in time when he can find some stability. I'll point out Pearce who is just now performing to his ability (quote Andrew Johns). after how many years? We seem to be much too quick in building up a whole lot of juniors and then having to send them to other clubs presumably due to the cap. To prove that point I don't think I can watch any game where there isn't a discarded Rooster junior playing for other teams and doing quite well thank you.
I don't care if the "managers" have to set up a dummy corporation in the Bahamas to service a third party for Connor but I want it done!!!

Maybe he just wants something that we can't give him. A starting spot.

Where do we play him though?

Our spine from next year are all in their primes.

There's simply no spot for Watson in the starting side so I don't begrduge him seeking an opportunity elsewhere.

Elvis and Tommy are spot on. He is a starter. Just not with us.
You can't hold a young kid back if he can get a starting spot elsewhere. And I have no dout Robbo sees it that way. I would love him to stay tho. As selfish as it would be.

I understand your frustration. I really rate Watson.

I would prefer him at hooker than friend. But maybe the club has higher hopes for Garvey down the track in that respect.

I also reckon with another season under his belt, Watson would become a better five eight than Keary in the long run. Having said that, I have been pleasantly surprised by how well Keary has performed this year, I didn't realise he is a good player when he played for souths, maybe because I can't stand watching souths play at all.

I guess it is a hard but good dilemma for our club to have considering that we also have high rated lammy junior and POS kid coming through as junior halves.

Keary leads the NRL in line break assists this year.

Which as a stat gives you a great indication of how well a playmaker is going.

He's a star and no way would you keep Watson over him on a hunch that he'll be better.

We did that not long ago with Hastings over Jimmy and look how that turned out

It is not on a hunch, it is based on the massive improvement that connor has shown over the last 2 years.

It's not crazy for Connor to stay with us for next year and I hope he does.

If there's an injury to anyone in the spine, he is first cab off the rank; he's probably guaranteed a position in the seventeen every week and, if he's playing well, will get more minutes; going to the wrong club can be bad; and with him and Keary both off contract at the end of next year, no one knows what will happen for 2019 (although at this stage Keary rightly has the inside running).

I thought we signed Keary for 3 years.

Watson still has a lot of work to do on his passing and kicking games if he's to be successful in the halves. He has a great running game, but unless he can provide a viable kicking option to the halfback, any team he plays 5/8 in will tend to get shut down because the half will be too easy to target. His left to right passing is also VERY average.

You can't begrudge Watson for leaving for a club that will give him more opportunities than us.

As a bench player I think Radley will serve us better going forward.

After SOO I don't think Watson is the best option on the bench. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets replaced by someone like Butcher. We have players that can cover the unlikelihood of replacing a back. It makes more sense to have an extra forward on the bench rather than having Watson on for possibly 10 minutes.

Have you seen friend's left to right passing?
