Watson has speed. Watson showed last game than he can tackle (42).

his passing from dummy half was more crisp than friends..

watson has what no other player does at our club - the ability to back up / support..

unpopular for saying this but id have him over keary anyway.. and that's not a statement on keary. I rate him too..

id keeep watson for a year and say to get a renewal you need to outplay keary

C'mon Axe. The best support player in our team is Michael Gordon. He is always there and has built a career on it.
To suggest Watson does what no other player at our club does- back up........is not correct.

I can't help but recall the Dogs letting Thurston go at the start of his career ... I honestly feel Connor has a real X-factor about him. I absolutely agree with everything said here especially about Butcher and Garvey who will be great players for the club but I hope the club finds some way to keep Connor after all we have a board of some of the most astute businessmen in the country.

The Broncos lost Ash Taylor under similar circumstances. And J Nikorima to us.

You simply can't hoarde quality young talent and no amount of sweet talk can convince them that spending time in reggies or as a bench utility is better than an increased pay packet and starting opportunity elsewhere.

Again look at Taylor. If he stayed at the Broncos he would still be on a relative pittance and in reserves most likely, with a game to cover injury here and there.

But as it is he's arguably the most prized young playmaker in the game and is set for a 1m per year pay day for his next contract from 2019 onwards.

I expect Watson will seek the same opportunity at the Knights and I doubt the club will stand in his way.

If the situation became critical I would let Ferguson go and let Connor play wing. Connor / Manu and Latrell/Tupou. Cronulla manage really well with shortish/fast wingers. If I sound desperate I'm going to go down fighting on this LOL!

I'd love to keep Fergo and Toups, but if that doesn't happen, playing Connor on the wing is not crazy.

Why would Connor Watson want to play on the wing for wingers money when he can play in the spine for another club where he wants to play & get paid a shit load more.

Will be a star in years to come. One we probably will regret letting go eventually. Just unlucky the way things worked with Keary already signed.

It's down to Robbo to give him more game time for starters - Robbo says he is a utility player but is only seeing him barring injury or SOO as a backup to Friend who does not want to play less than 80 minutes- He can come on to replace other players in other positions for instance - Apparently NP agreed to Watson being shown the Newcastle facilities at the bequest of John Quayle - I am hearing If Watson wants a release he will only be released to Newcastle and no one else for 2018 - other teams like the Tigers/Storm/Parramatta will have to sign him for 2019 onwards as he wont be released to any other club with a year to go on his contract.

Connor Watson is a year away of learning of been anything .
Going to newcs could be a career killer.
Keary has one year to go If Watson has any metal then he should stick learn and succeed Keary .
BUUUUTT all the young blokes are up for cash grab so wrong decisions are made -some times .
Watson all year admittedly with limited opportunity has shown bugger all...until last game where he finally blended into the side .
That took him all year ..how to tackle how and when to pass and when to back up.
To be honest he only ow has the right to a bench spot .
My advice to Watson stay where you are .
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

Based on this years form I am sure Keary's contract will be extended!
So is Watson was to succeed Keary he will be waiting a while.

Yes I was thinking the same thing. If Keary is an important part of two top four finishes ( maybe more) over this season and next, id say we would be keen to re sign him.
