This muppet gets paid $800k a year (the kind of coin the average Joe only dreams of earning), and still wants more.
Read my post below. You are being played by media propaganda.

Look at his current contract below which is an average of around $600k and heavily back-ended. He is asking for is $1m for 2023/24 and $1.2 in 2025 as compensation to bring the average pay closer to his fair value.

    2019 - $250,000
    2020 - $448,000
    2021 - $548,000
    2022 - $748,000
    2023 - $798,000
    2024 - $848,000

Personally I don't want a bloke thats got no passion but chasing the dollar, $750k is a decent amount and the club has helped him out a heap....off field as well.

It seems very few people understand how back-ended contracts works. Let's say a club offers $500k per year over three years, but due to salary cap issues they will pay $250k in the first year and make up for it with $750k in the last year:
        Year 1 = $250k (+ IOU $250k)
        Year 2 = $500k
        Year 3 = $750k = $500k + $250k owed from year 1

Back to Haas. The money he is on now includes money owed from previous years. He is on closer to $600k.

Just got off the phone to Paine... told me it's all a media beat-up.

He's currently in negotiations with Brissy about his 2024+ options and wants to milk every dollar he can outta those farkers, so his manager's told the media that he's off to the Roosters (strategically while they're in the top-8 and he's in form).

IMO his marketing strategy is unique and intelligent. Who woulda thunk about spreading rumours that you're going to Easts in order strongarm Brissy? Genius!

Bro this isn't the 90's and you're not 'owed [money] from year 1' in back-ended contracts. Rather, you're paid jack shyte in the first year, with the promise of big $$$ in your final year. If you're sacked for misconduct before your final year then such shyte... you're not 'owed' anything.

The NRL generally looks upon such contracts unfavourably (and will refuse to accept them) as you end up with clubs promising people big cash in future seasons, then vomiting at the prospect of paying them overs when they're on the outer (while simultaneously no other club's gonna touch 'em because they're over-valued).

While some modern contracts are back-end loaded, these will most likely involve gradual promotions rather than the dole for 4 years and the promise of a lottery jackpot for the 5th. Guys like Ponga, DCE, Teddy, GI, Burgess...etc aren't back-end loaded... they are/were on $1m a year as a flat-rate. I'd say Haas is most likely on this sort of a deal... not a 90's / early 2000's style contract that clubs like the Tigpies / Bullwogz / Eels used as they were short on immediate salary cap space.

You are deflecting from the point of the contract being paid an average of $600k , and the back-ending of the contract making it appear to be worth more than it really is.

And I would agree with you that under normal circumstances if don't honour the entirety of the contract then too bad. Except, that in this instance the agent is being taken to court for not representing the player's best interests. If Haas wins the court case, the contract will be null and void and he will probably pursuit the back-ended money plus more.

Love how Haas plays the game but if you pay him a million and then factor in the money for the bench prop to replace his minutes it would bend your cap out of shape.

                        I doubt it.

Sydney Roosters NRL coach Trent Robinson furious over rumoured link to Payne Haas - ABC News
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

What coach or team would not be interested in Haas.
                            it's hardly news
Robbo can deny it all he likes, he'd have Haas in a heart beat right now....
                            Please

That's a change. Even the coach has said "it's not true". But hell, if he replaces Crichton then welcome Payne. As long as his mother doesn't come with him.
