Last year we had a couple million dollars worth of players retire unexpectedly. That was not part of any plan or any spreadsheet. We were able to use some of that money to sign Cheese next year. We don't know where the rest of the money went. For all we know Robbo could be front-loading contracts this year to free up money going forward. It would make sense to do that for someone like JWH who is retiring soon.
Also the talk of Haas chasing a $1m salary is nonsense. He is chasing compensation for prior year underpayment.
You can talk about all the young forwards we have until the cows come home, but it has been big dog JWH who has straightened up our forward pack in recent times. Much the same way Haas did it last night vs Titans. He would be the perfect replacement for JWH and worth every scent of the $800k (not $1m) that he would be asking.
Friend/Morris twins and Liu were only signed to 2021 and Cords if his retirement was approved would still be paid but that wage wont be included in the cap for 2022 and remainder of that original contract i.e i think 2023 or 2024
The above money would have been used to re-sign players and upgrade contracts for 2022 and beyond for some players. - Ditto for 2023- SST leaving for an example
Brisbane have made it pretty clear they wont be releasing him and the Roosters again have said they are not interested in signing him. - Not sure how much clearer that can be - he wont be coming

You are making assertions about who would have stayed or gone, what the judge will decide in Haas' court case, etc. You do not know.

I think compensation from the Broncos is what he wants to stay in Brisbane
Going forward I couldn't see him knocking back 800k if it was 4 Mil over 5 years or something around that.

Front loaded contracts? Really do teams do that? It sounds so dumb for any club to offer a front-loaded contract.
So you pay a player $800k in years 1 and 2, and then $500k in year 3? What is stopping a player kicking stones and forcing a release at the end of year 2, to go somewhere else for $800k?
Both front-loaded and backended contracts are risky IMO. I vaguely remember Uncle Nick saying we don't do backended deals

They usually back end contract - i.e x signs 3 year deal for 1.5 milll - 1sy year 300k / 2nd year 400 k and 3rd year 800 k - throws teams cap out of whack especially when they have a few players on such contracts - Bulldogs under Hasler for an example
I don't think they allow such contracts anymore or at least have greatly restricted them

I could see how this could ease some pressure down the track by paying half of tomorrow's pay today.
maybe?

Its all about money. I dont think he cares where he plays so long as he gets his 1m a season.
The Broncos are also a top team who are definitely on the up so its not like the Chooks are the best side & the Broncos are hopeless.
Dont get me wrong if the Chooks can some how swing it & land his signature for 800k I would be stoked.
