That's the only news I've heard. Apparently it means he's signed with us :P

Some of you are falling for the media propaganda. They want you to believe Haas is already earning fair value at $800k and being greedy chasing $1m+. Look at his current contract below which is an average of around $600k and heavily back-ended. He is asking for is $1m for 2023/24 and $1.2 in 2025 as compensation to bring the average pay closer to his fair value.
2019 - $250,000
2020 - $448,000
2021 - $548,000
2022 - $748,000
2023 - $798,000
2024 - $848,000

latest from James Hooper
The Sydney Roosters are adamant they won’t be making a play for Brisbane and NSW Origin prop Payne Haas but it’s hard to see how they wouldn’t try and entertain it given what’s unfolded at the Broncos in the past 24 hours.
What is certain is the Roosters had some dialogue with the NSW Origin front row forward about six weeks ago but the word at the time was it was filed in the too hard basket given Haas is still signed with Brisbane until the end of 2024.
The Chooks are also up against it in terms of their salary cap position for 2023 to the point where they’re yet to register Angus Crichton’s contract.
Champion front-rower Jared Waerea-Hargreaves - who’s won three premierships with the Roosters - is also signed until the end of next season and has earned the right to go out on his own terms.
But as we know with the Roosters from the Cooper-Cronk - Mitchell Pearce situation when the club needs to make a big call they will back the football IQ within their ranks to get it right.
It’s not out of the realms of possibility they could see if JWH was prepared to hang up the gloves at the end of this year.
That would give them the latitude to pursue Haas - a road the Tricolours are adamant at this stage they won’t be going down.
