This is our Storm 2008 moment when the storm where under Cap pressure. The storm had the big names like Slater, Israel Folau, GI, Cronk and Cam Smith. So who did the storm release first??? One of their spine players? Nope....first to go was Israel Folau, a centre or winger.

Mitchell is our Israel Folau....like Israel a natural athlete and match winner but also like Israel has the reputation of not getting involved enough and been lazy.

Fact is centres are probably less important than wingers in the modern game. So spending (Manu 550,000 + Mitchell 800,000) 1.35million on only 2 centres is bad cap management. Won't matter if we have the best backline in the comp if we lose SST or cannot afford a replacement for JWH.

After Israel the storm soon won more comps, just saying..

Kind of reminds me about SBW's problems with the Bulldogs and yet years later he obviously learned his lesson about respect with the 'handshake' with Uncle Nick.
We were all young once and some of us were a bit more foolish than others. It hurts us even more I reckon because of all the success we have had recently and it's a bit of a headscratcher why someone would choose a couple of hundred grand when he could stay, still earn millions and be a Roosters legend. But one thing which seems apparent is that Mitchell is his own man (yes he has agents in his ear) who will make his own decision and have to live with it.

It might only be 200k per year difference, but it's also 600-800k over the course of the contract itself, which is a lot of money in hindsight, he's basically getting paid an extra year of his Roosters contract by the time he'd re-sign. Don't forget too, a career can be over in an instant. Remember Yow-Yeh?

Our club is well known for not leaking information to the media so all we speculate here are what we have been reading from the media and all this stuff that Robbo slammed his fist on Latrells coffee table and warned him that he would never play in this city again is very much an episode of Dallas much like I just created. I do believe though that others around Latrell have been mouthing off and creating stories and I have some doubt that Latrell has fully endorsed that, but We Will See!!!

I watched a quick interview of Paul Gallen (and yes I know its Gallen). He made a very good point that if Latrell stays at the Roosters he would easily make up the shortfall in money by getting rep games ie: SOO and Test games. Also being in a successful team would bring him more 3rd party money. It made sense. Let’s face it if he’s FB at another club can’t see him beating Teddy for the spot in rep teams. Gallen said he would easily make up the $200k by staying put.

Adding to what I just wrote, it’s just a shame Latrells manager is only after the money or else he would impress that on Latrell. The quick money on a contract at a lesser club could have detrimental effects on Latrells career long term. Unless he performs like a superstar every game his value will plummet. That’s not the case at the Roosters because he is not the only star. He doesn’t have to put in a 5 star game every week. It’s just bad management from Rushton to not consider this and just go after the quick bucks so he can line his own pockets.

Latrell went through 2016 with us. He knows we're not perfect and that he's been a massive part of our revival since then.

If the Roosters make him play for us in 2020 on his current salary THAT makes up for any extra money he might pull elsewhere. I think the deal he was offered was a 3-year contract (including 2020) at $800K pa. If he's on $450K now (as has been suggested) he needs someone to pay him a million a year in 2021 and 2022 just to break square.

I think that 2016 season is what is driving Latrell. To play fullback

I don’t suspect the club wants this contract drama happening all year and would like it sorted quick smart.

Also, Latrell hasn’t played to his optimum since that Tigers game which is when he first hinted at trouble with his manager.

Regardless of whatever bullshit was going on behind the scenes, I will give Latrell this - he played a blinder in the GF.

We were under the pump almost the whole game but he defended like a beast. And then with a classic counterpunch that would do Ali proud, he played a huge role in the GF winning moment.

But yes, as a whole he underperformed for the majority of the season. He could get away with it at the Roosters but sure as shit won't at a vastly inferior club like the Tigers or Rabbits.
