I doubt this will happen. Seems like an off the cuff remark from SBW. It won't amount to anything, and like some have said, it is all well and good to say I will give you half my salary however, what does the auditor think about it.

If SBW cuts his 800k to 400k, then this should be of no concern to the outside officials. Any player can take a pay cut on their salary or a pay rise on their salary given their club remain within the cap. I personally do not want cooper at our club, as I don't want a player in our spine who would only be there temporarily. I can see RTS,Maloney, Pearce and seleuini or Friend developing a combination which will last for years to come. Cooper will only be here for one year max before he goes running back to union.SBW is a different story because he is not a part of the spine and only a offloading and tackle breaking forward, not a playmaker around the ruck.
This gesture does disprove the bad light that sbw has been painted in for many years, as a money loving disloyal player. I said before on this forum that signing SBW may just be the best thing our club has done in recent years....time will tell.Comment of the year:
Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,
"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

Has to do with the NRL's crackdown on heavily back ended contracts.

As much fun as it is to consider the possibilities with Quade in our side, do you guys really think that Khoder Nasser the manager of both players would really be happy with them both splitting the earnings of one player (Sonny Bill). He is there to make money as well and would probably much rather taking a slice of a big french rugby union contract.

Some of the crap on here is laughable.
Cooper is a ****ing disease. Anyone who wants him here needs their heads read. The moment something doesn't go his way (i.e round two when he gets dropped to Newtown for missing 65 tackles against Soufffffffs) he will cry and we become a (bigger) circus than we already are.
Sonny Bill not a mercenary because he's giving away money to a mate? Why not when he's the only player at the club who's allowed to do whatever the **** he wants whenever he wants to earn money on the side?
Sonny's walkout is still one of the most gutless acts I've ever known. All his reasons for it were bullshit. Ask yourselves this question: Do you think SBW would have walked away from the Bulldogs if they were coming in the top four, as opposed to last place?
Thought so.

They also wouldn't let Melbourne players take a pay cut to stay together after the salary cap scandal.
This is nothing new.
We can't have SBW and Cooper... why not?
Dragons did the same... Gasnier on 55k a season anybody?

Gaz is the reason there cracking down on it. I was talking to a mate who was training with the Dragons last offseason and the players rep informed the group of the NRLs new policy with regards to Shuey being more strict on back ended deals.
I remember Orfords deal with manly was heavily back ended and all that happened was manly constantly trying to off load him. Now the same is happening with Jennings. Brett Stewart is having trouble registering his new contract for the same reason.
Clubs are getting into trouble doing this so the league has stepped in

Chook.

Ghost Of Finch, move on man, you cant blame anybody from wanting to get out the Bulldogs in that era, all the players knew the cheating that was going on, salary cap wise, and the parasites that were playing at the club, scum of the earth people, he paid them back, what he owed them, and done his time out of the game, to serve his penalty, at least give him a go, thats all anybody asks.

I don't understand all this negativeness about the situation...this is like being given a christmas bonus. Whether you like Quade or not we would be in reality getting him for nothing. May as well have him on the books, if he is a dud then simply drop him from the team. He would be a great backup back for us who can fill a number of positions if we had injuries. Id like to see these players in the following positions;
1. Cooper
2. Mini (one last hurrah on the wing - not up to playing fb anymore)
3. SKD
4. BJ (Moga when fit)
5. T Sheck (will be our fullback of the future, but like Mini & Barba needs to play a few seasons on the wing)
6. Maloney
7. Pearce (whether you like him or not, its obvious the club is building their future around him)
