Hugo’s total lack of creativity last night shows why DCE edges ahead of him as an option for us next season. Hugo is a good foil but no more at this point of his career.

Manly offered DCE $800k to play next season and he knocked it back.
Will the NRL accept that he's now only worth $500k a season and register his contract?
Will the club make an official statement now that Rothfield has made the specifics of the deal public?

If Sam is on the field doing his thing then who cares wether it’s DCE or Hugo at 6 . Sure DCE may be better with ball in hand but Hugo’s defence is better and his kicking is on par . We just need someone to play to the systems
The biggest issue is, the club is putting all its Eggs in the Walker basket for the next decade or so and unless Walker puts on some bulk in a hurry he’s going to be on the sideline for plenty of games .. We may well see DCE and Hugo as our halves for plenty of games next year . We’ve let Smith go and Rodwell is probably looking at 2027 as the year he starts looking at NRL.
There’s one other concern and last night really drives this home … what if DCE decides to retire and doesn’t come . If walker goes down we could well be looking at going into quite a few games with Hugo and Watson as our halves

One of the stupidest signings in the history of this club. And that's saying something.

It’s frustrating. We let go of Dom this season and sign Temu toups ffs. Another thing someone get him a ****ing haircut it looks like he missed a pony tail at the back of his big head waiting for someone to pull it one day if ever does make a break.Last edited by Chicken.Little; 08-25-2025, 12:01 AM.

Rightly or wrongly he is phoning it in completely for Manly.

Really piss poor effort.
The gap between our good and bad is enormous. Top teams simply play consistently. The Roosters way is to keep everyone guessing which team will turn up.

Bloody hell.
We drop 1 game, and all of a sudden Savala (the best thing since sliced bread up until this weekend) is not good enough, and people are viewing DCE as the saviour.
I can see this place hasn't changed.
Knee jerk emotional reactions from fans based on short term results.
I recall people wanting to punt Robbo in early 2018.

Our forwards were atrocious and our ball security was so bad it was almost pantomime so definitely not putting that loss squarely on Hugo. I just think he didn’t do anything to try and influence the game, ie run the ball, come up with a bit of variation in his kicking game. It will come with time.

Our completion rate was barely above 50%
That's why we lost the game.

The first season rookie has one off night, after losing his halves partner in the first 10 minutes. As a team we make 20 unforced errors. And these freaks want to bag him?

So apart from the bombs (one resulting in a try) that leaves us 3 full set for Hugo to create something in a reasonable position. Notwithstanding that Teddy did try and control the attack once Sammy went off and that is a team tactic.
Some are very harsh on Hugo to try and justify DCE's poor year. His record playing half is 10 wins from 15 games many with Sandon. Two unfortunate close losses against Dogs and Raiders from poor teams discipline.
Sammy/Hugo combo (full games) are 4-0 including very strong wins against Manly, Dolphins and Dogs. They compliment each other and have improved each game.
His record speaks for itself.
