That would have been very interesting. I know Declan from MasterChef. He was on this year’s return to win series as well. He seemed to be a pretty basic meat and veg cook, but he was trying to branch out a bit. The judges loved him probably because of his charisma. Speaking of MasterChef I have Julie Goodwin’s braised curried lamb chops in the oven now. We’ll see how they go.

He hung around for Vikki and Helena afterwards and joined then on the stage in part of their demonstration , he had good rapport with them.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Julie Goodwin's curry lamb chops sound good, have a couple of Julies recipes printed out but haven't tried any yet.

If I like it I’ll post it on the other recipe thread. It’s a good old fashioned home style curry. I actually just remembered Declan’s specialty I think was seafood. But he also did other meats. He and another contestant became an item on last years show. Sarah, but I can’t remember her surname. She specialised in Thai and south east Asia I think.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post

Had a delicious mussels in tomato and chilli dish last night at the Maltese cafe at the south end of King St Newtown, then had a penne del nonna, it was tomato and eggplant.
Tonight will most likely left over lamb meatballs and risoni from Saturday night or home made burgers,Last edited by horrie hastings; 11-03-2025, 06:52 PM.

Going to go out somewhere nice for dinner tomorrow as Saturday i go onto a plain diet of white bread ( yuck ) and basic plain stuff before complete liquid diet on Sunday ( apart from jelly ) where i have to drink that horrible stuff to clean you out for a colonoscopy on Monday. Feels like tomorrow night will be a last supper, i don't know why i am worried because i have done it all before. Yay Gatorade , jelly and zooper doopers for Sunday besides water and the horrible stuff you have to mix into it.

Oh, that stuff is awful. I had to do it 4 years ago and due again in 12 months time. I’ve never had to drink anything so disgusting. A horrible mix of super salty and super sweet. Absolutely gross. I couldn’t actually drink it all and am dreading going through that again. The plain boring diet was the easy part for me.Originally posted by horrie hastings View PostGoing to go out somewhere nice for dinner tomorrow as Saturday i go onto a plain diet of white bread ( yuck ) and basic plain stuff before complete liquid diet on Sunday ( apart from jelly ) where i have to drink that horrible stuff to clean you out for a colonoscopy on Monday. Forgotten how bland plain white bread is, had it today with scrambled eggs for breakfast.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Last night seeing a lot of foods are off the menu for a couple of days , had Thai, chicken and prawn dim sims, prawn wrapped in betel leaves which was so delicate, stuffed chicken wings and a Penang lamb shank curry, it was all very good.

I find it interesting how Kiwi's opt for white sandwich bread when they're making abalone, whitebait or sea urchin roe sandwiches.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post

Find it interesting as i would have never even considered white bait for sandwiches, just like it in fritter form or as the Italian called it Nannata. Just a shame the New Zealand white bait is rare as hens teeth now, when i was living down in East Sydney had a Kiwi neighbour who would get whitebait sent over from NZ and invite me over when she cooked it up, absolutely yummy. Unfortunately most of stuff in the markets here is the Chinese product, i often order Nannata at the Maltese Cafe in Newtown, i suspect it is the Chinese product but it's still nice.Originally posted by Bates View Post

Speaking of sandwich's, love a good prawn sandwich or roll and have been craving one for a while now coming into summer, just a bit of lemon juice and Marie rose style sauce, maybe a bit of lettuce but that is optional.Last edited by horrie hastings; 11-08-2025, 03:57 PM.
