Dinner at the Norah Head Sporties was quite pleasant, shared a salt and pepper squid with Asian salad, squid was ok but the Asian salad was beautiful and fresh, a nice dressing and crunch with peanuts.
Then both had a surprisingly good prawn and chorizo pasta, wasnt expecting much of it but it was very good.

With the BBQ last night the brother in law said he had some potatoes, i was horrified when i pulled them out, they were the white potatoes but looked a 100 years old and had lots of eyes growing out of them but once i soaked and peeled them and cut them thinly they came up a treat on the BBQ, so crisp, i haven't been able to do them that good on the BBQ at home.Originally posted by mightyrooster View PostWell potatoes were in very short supply today. I tried two Woollies and 2 Coles and no white potatoes and what was left of the red ones were very ordinary. I hope they restock tomorrow.

Oh maybe I shouldn’t be so picky then, I’ll bear that in mind when I go looking again today.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post

It's cold and wet here today.
Slow cooked beef in the oven with carrots, onions and potatoes. Added red wine also. Cooked at 130 deg. for 5 hours.
Will serve with steamed broccolini from the garden.Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

Lol, ok I misunderstood. Luckily the local Coles restocked this morning so I managed to get some more white ones which didn’t look too bad.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post
I actually think he had these potatoes for a long time.
Dinner tonight is beef rissoles, mash potato and zucchini / beans.

Went to a local fruit shop at Toukley to get some bananas instead of going to Coles and they had some very decent white potatoes, while still not perfect they were the best i had seen since the potato shortage.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Was heading out for dinner after catching up for drinks with friends in Newtown but with the sudden turn of weather with rain, thunder and lightning a direct bus towards home turned up after leaving the pub so came straight home and made toasted sandwiches with corned beef, tomato, pickled onion and cheese, very enjoyable for an impromptu unplanned dinner.

Went to the Bayside Food and Wine festival today at Mascot, a nice mix of food trucks, food stalls, wineries and distilleries, they also had cooking demonstrations and live music. Hung around and watched a couple of the cooking demonstrations, one was Declan Cleary who has appeared on Master Chef, he was doing three different demonstration during the day, the one we watched he did a basic pasta with pork sausages, after cooking the sausage, he did onion in the pan and threw in all sorts of stuff, soy sauce , balsamic vinegar, more salt then chucked in the dry pasta and topped up with beef stock, he kept on adding stock and more salt. it seemed to take ages for a simple dish and when sampled, the some of the pasta was still hard and it was way to salty. Still though he was very charismatic but this dish was a fail.
After Declan was Vikki and Helena who appeared on My Kitchen Rules, what lovely girls, i had met one before about 2 years ago at a long table dinner. They made a basic pita bread just with plain flour, Greek yoghurt and a pinch of salt, they made a dip with Greek Feta and Yoghurt and lemon zest and chilli, it was delicious. They were doing another demonstration making other dishes which i would have liked to stay around to see but headed off home after it.
