If they don't know the basics by now we are wasting our time.
He's been coaching them for 10 years, he has had some of the best players in the game at his disposal, Maloney and SBW and Jennings won us the comp in 2013, Cronk , Keary, Teddy and Mitchell won us the comps in 2018 and 2019.
He talks about the length of the competition..... I don't think the number of games has changed significantly in the last 25 years.
I don't think Robinson is a guru, or even an outstanding coach..... he is about average. His win percentage is 63% so he doesn't win 2 out of 3, and with the facilities, and the personel he has had that's nothing special.
Truly, one of the most outlandish things I’ve ever seen on this page. Robinson is an “about average” coach. You’re embarrassing yourself. He’s our greatest coach full stop. The last few years injuries and dumb player decisions have let us down. We’ve won 3 competitions in 10 years. He’s changed our club and the mould of it. The fact you’re suggesting he is an average coach makes me wonder if you even support the team. In my eyes, he can coach as long as he wants to at the Roosters. Honestly staggered by what you’ve just conjured up.

Especially when most coaches say this sort of thing every year anyway. And again, it is just a trial match. We shouldn’t be saying such ridiculous things so soon lol

Back to basics after a off night .
Never heard that before , Who cares about a pre season trial I'm sure the Roosters will have plenty more off nights this year. The team assembled this year has the potential to blow the competition away, we just need some better luck with injuries .
Robbo is a great coach, you only need to look at how he had the chooks humming late last year after a horror start to the season he nearly pulled off a miracle and it was only injurys again in the end that killed our chances .

          Back to basics?
          Lovely.
          Music to my ears.
Yes, pass and catch the football with dropping it.
Pass the ball backwards, not forwards.
Play the ball without dropping it, or kicking it forward etc.
Hang onto the ball "like grim death" when being tackled.
No wayward hard passes that have no chance of being caught.
          No giving away dumb penalties.

Would be good to see Victor run the ball more. These second man plays get predictable, often the receiver is under pressure when getting the ball.

Meanwhile, out in the country, at the Charity Shield trial it was Souths putting on a magical display of "the basics".
Great running by Cook from dummy half...then nice passes.
Inside passes, outside passes, to players running at pace into gaps created.
Hard running, short passes, deft grubbers, glory glory all the way as they racked up 42 points in attack.
Souths were quick, cunning, drilled ... unlike what we offered at Gosford.
              Like it or not.
              I don't like it.
              I expected more.

Our players are the wrong shape or something.
Other teams have heavy and muscular centres and back row forwards.
Manly now has Garrick on the wing...188cm 98kg.
How is Paulo, at his stage of development, supposed to stop Garrick?
              Collins to right wing.
That's about what's needed...or Kurt Sorensen on right wing, but he's retired.

              Tedesco slams 'embarrassing' Roosters...Fox.

Ok to say, but quite unfair really.
              Our boys tried their best.
The refereeing of us was its usual standard...and Trent was trialling young players to see what they could do.

              "Can't win without the cattle".
We just didn't/don't have the 'cattle'...and are rebuilding.
Every other team seems to be bigger and faster this season.

Maybe Turpin may start at 9. Smith to 13. Radley in the back row until Angus comes back.
Wanna belt the Dolphins, and beat Souths?
Then you'll have to ring the Club urgently and tell them to get a Hurrell clone to play right centre, and a couple of huge ""smash em up" (legally of course) forwards from somewhere, and unleash them on Dolphins and Souths, show them how St Helens do it.
"Get out and get into em, smash em hard in tackles".....run the Hurrell clone thru the centres at pace.

Nothing wrong with tackling, holding the ball and kicking well. But flare wins games.

Yeah, he's coached us for 10 years and had the best top 17 roster in the comp for just about all that time, and yet at times we look like a rabble, and he comes out with crap like we want to get back to basics.... like that's some new theory. I reckon he has failed in his recruitment and development of fringe players, and his game management is questionable. As I said, we have won comps when we have had superstars, I don't put it down to Robbo's coaching ability. He has not achieved outstanding results given the players he has had, I do not see that he has developed an outstanding culture. I think he is an average first grade coach.

He has the chance to prove you wrong, starting soon.
If he's wise he'll put on the field, as closely as possible to, the team we had in the finals last season, and in the positions they played.
                      Suaalii...right wing.
                      Keary, Walker halves.

Not fair IMO. Last year injuries to Manu and Teddy being illegally taken out of the game crueller our chances of advancing .
The Klokstad head high tackle of BMoz in the semis should’ve been a penalty try and we would’ve advanced further.
The so called spear tackle by Verrills cost us the game against the Panthers etc etc
These May seem like poor excuses but the fact is we are thereabouts and only bad luck and /or bad refereeing at the wrong time have cost us making it to the GF.

We've also had ten years worth of injuries in two seasons.

All I remember seeing was dropped balls , bummer.

It's tough going from reserves into first grade when your first grade team is getting smashed by big 'monsters' and smaller lightning fast 'monsters'.
