I was already counting my $20K when the ref (I think Archer) went to look at it and they found he was offiside on the kick. I haven't done a bet like it since.

That's an out and out tragedy but there is a funny part too. I gave him the ticket (he was astounded when he looked at it) and he pinned it to the board in the player's room. None of them could believe someone would back him - let alone that much. For me it was overs because the bookies thought he was a bench player but he was starting most weeks. And he was often thereabouts.
I'm chuckling at my desk reading this - I can just imagine your reaction at the time Ned was actually a half decent player and a very decent bloke. It would be no surprise if it was Archer who duded you - he has form with dudding the Chooks ...

It crushed me. And I have had to see that game probably half a dozen times since. They play it every Anzac Day. It's death by a thousand cuts.

I remember you showing Catic the ticket at a function

But why does this bother some people so much? Imo if run of the mill player criticism in a gameday thread offends people then I fear for their ability to navigate their way through a harsh world.

And for their sake I'm glad they never grew up on a Kop watching English football. The things you'd hear would evidently have some members here crying for days.

I think glass houses come into affect here. Can anyone really say that they've NEVER abused a player when they're having a shocker? Hmm I doubt it.
it has nothing to do with being offended but if thirteen is here calling players soft every week which he does or some of the stuff you come up with then when the opportunity presents itself be a man and say it to their face its only fair

Don't get confused with people anonymously letting off steam in an internet forum with real life. No one in their right mind would think of saying what you are suggesting at a kids holiday camp and rightly so.

Two years ago, parra was playing tigers on a Monday night, had $10 in the acct and was gonna put it on radradra, but he was paying somethylike $5, scrolled down the list and saw Tim mannah at 101-1, put it on and he scored! Bout a month later, chooks were playing parra, I still had $ in the acct and put $40 on guerra, and just for the hell of it I put another $10 on mannah again at 100-1, he scored 1st again, unbelievable! The bloke has scored about 5 tries in his career and I get two of them when he scores 1st.

there goes my chances of winning lotto I suppose.

Equally bad are anonymous posters on forums who bag and make assumptions about other posters they've never met and wouldn't dare say what they type on here to the other poster's face.

Good on Toups for his re-signing.

The refs say they are going to penalize illegal blocks runners off bombs but will probably magically forget about it when we put one up.

I had a try double back in 1979(First try scorers) when we played Balmain the first round after beating them in the craven mild/wills pre season final I think 12 to 9- Larry Corowa(Balmain) and Ken Wright(Easts)- disaster of a game we ended up with 10 players - Both John Harvey and Royce Ayliffe sent off - Greg Owens who had a dickie ankle from the pre-season final was replaced and Fairfax and Schubert were both injured and had to come off too- the days of only 2 replacements both of whom had to at least play 1/2 a game in the lower grades - Larry Corowa scored his try(Balmain's first) and Ken Wright(Easts) should have too(line wide open and no one to beat) but he passed it to Steve McFarlane who score instead- Cost me $200 - never bet again after that

I played those doubles for years. Then I finally won one and stopped.

Ref's cannot even get the play the ball right so I don't how they will ever correctly penalise these blocker plays - maybe penalise them for crowding instead of blocking - There was a bit of banter from the Vermin fans about Farah's pass into Friend not being penalised - I thought it was fair enough as Farah deliberately passed in to him and at no time was Friend attempting to block the pass (lying flat on the ground)- The Burgess play the ball being missed was amazing
