No doubt about it - management have been incompetent since Fittler retired as a player. (they put way too much faith in Stuart being capable of rebuilding IMO, but we went over this on the Wall years ago)

Mase holds the leverage, he has a $450k backloaded contract we agreed to pay him this season and unless he gets a super deal in Japan we will be paying most of it - we just have to sit it out and hope that deal comes through.

The problem with Mason sticking around if Smith doesn't want him is that Mason strikes me as one of those types that will try to get the easily influenced players i.e young players on his side against Smith. Which can only be bad for team harmony.

Then Mason can influence the Newtown boys and disrupt their team harmony.

Even $400K does not automatically entitle you train with the NRL squad or be selected in the NRL side. All it entitles you to is the money.

Sure he could meet up our young blokes in their free time, but I'm sure Smith will have a solution for that, even if it means Mason's devotees joining him at the Jets.

I'm sure if the right guidelines were put in place by Smith Mason's 'fanclub' would soon dwindle in numbers.
