I know Norman is definitely off at the end of the year and I also know that we tried hard to get him a couple of years ago so will be interesting to see how that plays out with POS still here and mini likely to retire and Norman behind Hunt, Wallace and Prince in the halves and Hoffman at the back
Of course but none were off contract at the end of 2012. I have not seen much of Milford but there are stories he wants to go back to Brisbane. Wigthon looks a top talent.

If I name a random kid I know I'm going to get 100 reasons about why the club couldn't sign him.

I'll give you a bulk of examples; Milford, Carr, T Ryan, Cornish, Moses etc etc.

There's plenty of talent out there, my argument has never been that we should have signed player x it's that we should have used a different strategy in waiting for the right option to come up.
How long would you like us to wait for the right option? You do realise that it may never eventuate. Any decent half has 3/4 of the 16 clubs after them. Sometimes you have to make the best of what's available because realistically the player you'd ideally like is unlikely to become available.

There is plenty of young talent out there admittedly, but the question is whether they have the attributes to become a regular first grader. Mental attitude is just as important as physical talent, and that cannot be judged by watching onfield performances in say, the NYC.

Pretty important position just to through some random Toyota Cup kid into while we wait for "the right option" to come along

        How long would we wait?
I don't watch enough Toyota Cup to comment, I watch maybe one game a week + the Roosters if we're at home. If I was the club I would have just left it to POS and his scouting team to it, with the objective of picking up a creative playmaker who would be ready to handle the step up to Firs Grade. Again I'm arguing for the strategy not the player, I don't know how I can make this any clearer...

Like I've said numerous times, if the kid showed promise then we could persist otherwise we should be in the market this year. With Maloney's contract (not as small as some are making out) and SBW's money we'd be able to compete with any club for the players currently off contract.

Fair enough, I understand where you're coming from. I do agree that Maloney certainly isn't on small money. He was signed when he was on a roll and the warriors were surging towards the GF. The Roosters sure know how to buy at the top of the market. He'd be on over $300K for sure, probably more. I think though that in order to get this strike player in the spine that you're so keen on, it would make more sense to focus on Mini's replacement. I also think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the impact Maloney has, especially with the likes of Jennings and Sonny Bill lurking around

Just one year, I've never suggested any longer. This year you've got Carney, Thurston, Hayne, J Reynolds (Roosters fan), Sam Williams, Widdop & potentially Tomkins all on the market. Hell I'd even give Benji a prod, they're a pretty unhappy camp over there at the moment.

R6 out of all you've mentioned, who can be realstically be considered as a chance of coming to the Roosters apart from S Williams (no thanks) or perhaps Reynolds (in two minds)? And Maloney is as good or better than both of them.

I doubt Carney will ever return and I don't want him to either - he had his chance and blew it.

Widdop from memory rejected our advances last time around and Thurston, Marshall and Tomkins are pipedreams I reckon, for financial reasons if nothing else, especially if Scummy Bill goes round again in 2014

I love that their only local junior is a Chookies fan!!! Could've sworn their slogan was bred not bought.. Even the ones they breed can't stand them.

I am a Josh Reynolds fan however getting anyone from the Bulldogs with their substantial funds is very difficult.

Yeah I'm a fan too. He's a great competitor and would've been an absolute hero in last years GF if his halves partner was smart enough to pick a few kicks in behind the line. It might become a bit too obvious if Josh Jackson and Dale Finucane really step up for the entire year and play top footy. Although in saying that I believe a great coach will always make a legally assembled team look quite illegal. Especially if he's inherited players contracted for a few more years.

Which one is the creative player out of those 3????

                          • I really don't think that we could have signed a better list of players going into next season and still maintained our strong youth policy.

For example, had we signed Tamou, we may have lost a bunch of young front rowers including either one or more of Evans, Napa, Tasi etc. Had he came to our club on 500K+ and ended up being a flop aka Snowden, I would have loved to see what all of the current whiners would have said, especially if any of those young front rowers mentioned above ended up tearing it up for other clubs.

I think we are very close to seeing this crop of players reaping the reward of persistence. JWH, Kennedy, RTS, Tasi, Moga, Cordner, Evans and Napa are our future stars.

                              • I think you would get more value from Tomkins right now.

Sheck shows promise but has achieved very little thus far.

I personally rate Tomkins as 1 of the best 5 players in the game, I dont know if Sheck will reach those heights.
