Paul Murray said, “Dutton won by a country mile,” and Chris Kenny said Dutton “smashed it out of the park”. I can only think Dutton landed a few killer blows when i flicked channels for a couple of minutes to watch Happy Valley races
Didn't watch either because I've made up my mind already and I think most voters have too.

Seriously who's gonna change their principled voting stance just because one candidate's provided more 'gotcha' moments during a 'debate'?

Let's be real. Both are heavily trained and scripted in their approaches to public speaking. They know the party's line on all the bog standard questions and but for a massive screw-up they're gonna keep repeating the same BS over and over.

From the shorts I heard Dutton had this pre-planned 'are you better off than you were when the day that Albo was elected' line that some PR dude scripted for him. Old mate's got Pete's number from when he was running around like a muppet calling reconciliation a 'voice of division'. Happy for him to give me a call if he wants to hear how I did a Boston Marathon qualifier last Sunday (finished first place for my age in the Canberra Marathon) and settled on an investment property today. Got a cheeky promotion at work too (many years overdue) so there's gonna be a dollar or two extra in the bank next fortnight. To boot, Easts beat the Drongos... feels particularly good to have notched one up against Dutton. So yeah, life's pretty good mate!!!

Obviously Trump's a see you next Tuesday and my life would be better off if he's just STFU and retire to his stupid fake Mexican villa in Florida. But no, other than that things are going pretty sweet.

What else am I gonna get outta the debate? Not calling myself the most informed person out there but I know where both major parties stand on just about everything because I read the news daily.

To me the public debate's been had, my mind's made up and I'll be putting in an early vote next week. Faaarkin done! Goodbye Dutton. Hope you lose your seat as you don't deserve to earn $$$ while you sit on the backbench, waiting for some conservative think-tank to offer you a consultancy gig.

      • I do wonder who ism is posting to here when ‘old mate’ (??) and his multitude of alts are all on ignore.

        • So far it’s been a pretty uneventful and boring election campaign. Maybe it’s because the mainstream media is obsessed with Trump at the moment.

Good question BD. I used to think it was Paddo, but he describes ‘old mate’ as probably coming in here being boastful if the Libs were leading the polls like he did when the voice vote was defeated. So it can’t be him as Paddo is no right winger. Maybe there’s more than one old mate?

I don't take any notice of supposed alter-egos. I just read each post as it is.

Fair enough Big Dog. I guess we all do things differently. I just like to know I’m reading or talking to the one person they claim to be. I guess ism is saying the same thing too.

I thought Peter Garrett left politics?

You've got your random bald guys mixed up... check the jawline... Pete's is much more defined

Side note, I met Peter Garrett last year (also knew him as a small kid). In essence a cousin's dad always told stories of hanging out with him at uni and being best mates. We all wrote it off as BS but when he died, his son sent an e-mail to Pete's inbox to fact check it. Pete was like 'yes... all true!!! Oi when is the funeral, can I come?!?' He then rocked up, saw my mum and various connections were made (my grandpa used to walk over to their house to complain about noise and then ended up staying until the next morning as he'd get blind, so mum would come and collect him).

                        • Worth highlighting that old mate is so farking loud when he thinks the Tories or their allies are gonna win. Also he's admitted to being a Lib party lobbyist who proudly went around encouraging people to vote against reconciliation measures. Examples of him using multiple accounts (and threads) to persistently pester people about elections include:

                          - Gladys... yep I remember being hounded for suggesting she night be corrupt.

                          - Abbott (he's far-right and is a massive fan).

                          - Trump (was blocked as a result of being so frigging persistent with his right-wing trolling across multiple accounts... if they didn't ALL go quiet concurrently, maybe I'd believe the representation that they're all unique).

                          - The referendum. Like Dutton... he pretended to be an uncommitted skeptic, then went all out 'nup, no constitutional recognition, it'll lead to our homes being given away!!!' style misinformation (again, across multiple accounts).

                          - He keeps calling Dutton the 'worst PM ever' and saying things like 'just a discussion point... people are forgetting how Dutton will restore peace and order'. Coz the USA's doing so great under Trump. So much social and economic cohesion there...

Anyhow old mate's got access to internal polling and has gone quiet which is telling in itself as he's usually a vocal racketeer.

One of the better sources we have is https://www.pollbludger.net

Currently it's saying 'Extensive breakdowns from Newspoll record the opening of a substantial gender gap, while Roy Morgan reports a blowout lead for Labor'.

I'll believe it when we see it, but positive signs IMO.

                          • Had to laugh at the last debate when they accused each other of telling fibs.

I don't remember too many elections where both sides have gone full tilt with the promises. Of course neither of them will be able to fulfil even half of the promises. Winners will be grinners and the losers will soon point out that most of the promises that were made were bs.

Then you got Clive Palmers mob, who says both major parties are telling fibs, then goes on with a whole lot of crappola themselves....like setting interest rates at 3% as if its the governments job to set interest rates. However the may gain some support as im predicting another move away from the big 2 towards minnows. May be just a co-incidence but many of the people i speak to out and about are talking about voting for The Greens

                            • Just got my postal vote papers in the mail today, will be studying a few of the parties for the Senate after my first choice before making my next choices.
The House of Reps on my ballot paper are a much easier choice.
