  • Tried hard and had chances but overall the better side on the night won the game Bit disappointing it’s over as it’s been a fun ride Hopefully we can finish off with a win over Sweden

I think Spain will win the final

    • Great Cup series from the Matildas. Fell short in the end against a classy, professional team. Sam Kerrs goal will be etched in the memory of a generation who will gravitate to the game. I hope there are still some young girls left to play Rugby League!

There may have been a little fatigue creeping in too after the huge long minutes game against France and quick back-up. Sometimes big events are harder on the host nation with the weight of expectation. And those dopey politicians speculating on public holidays didnt help, way premature.

They can be very proud, but still one game to go.

Kennedy being out really showed I knew we were in trouble when I heard she was out

I said that to a mate before the game, I was worried because she has stopped so many attacking raids and shut down the opposition strikers.
Great tournament Ladies they have been brilliant and united the country in a way only sport can which is why I love it.
Had our chances but the poms too good, very disappointing giving up the 2nd goal when it should have been dealt with and we were playing much better.

          • And kudos to the ref for her control and being subjective when players call for a penalty, not awarding upon request.

            Need her in the NRL.

            • england scored their good goal and looked slightly dominant until kerr kicked as good a goal as you'll ever see and for a while we had the momentum. the dreadful error at the back was an awful setback but kerr still had a couple of chances and if she'd had a full tournament under her belt you'd figure she would have netted at least one of them. we pushed and england took advantage with a well taken chance and the dream was over. that's the way it goes sometimes.
hoping the girls get the win tomorrow night and elie carpenter has a blinder

Well said MR. That first penalty looked dodgy.. The girls were a bit mentally fatigued I think, it's been a helluva ride.

50 posts on a thread about the matildas and not one of them relevant

                          • i thought the penalty was unlucky - the swede unexpectedly kicked right meaning her weight drifted leftwards into the path of the aussie player - but hard to argue sweden didn't deserve something out of the world cup. in the knockout stages they beat two former champions and might have lost to the eventual champions.
we looked cooked and the shorter turnaround didn't help us but the girls did us proud. to see the way they were able to unite the country is something i will never forget

Actually all three games yesterday weren’t too bad.

                              • Football Australia dropped the ball after the 2006 Men's FIFA World Cup when the Socceroo's got through to the round of 16.

Will they do it again after the Matilda's success in reaching the semi finals.

Obviously more funding is required and better facilities from the grass root level to the top level to compete with the other countries on the International stage

They fund a range of sports via a National Lottery in the UK

600 million pounds ( 1.2 Billion AUD ) will be pumped into the English Women's Football Program as a result of winning the Women's Euro's last year.

Need to have a look at the funding model
