A few over the years, but Artie was the highlight. I met him when he was doing a book signing, up here in Tamworth. At the time, Soward was tearing it up in President's Cup and I asked him if he was the future first grade half at the Roosters. He chuckled and said, "No. I don't think so." I replied, "You don't think so?" He repeated, "Not a chance," and laughed again, like I was insane for asking the question. Artie said he preferred the chances of Peter Taylor, an aboriginal half from Tamworth, who signed to Easts while still at school. Taylor never played firsts for Easts, but did make one appearance for Souths in 2005.
That’s a cool story. I like the ones where you hear these guys being very candid.
Thanks for sharing
Too many to gibber on about here, most after hours at clubs./pubs etc.
I did meet Artie at Easts Rules club once back in the late 80's - absolute gentleman. Had a good chat to Uncle once too in those early 2000's days when it was on back at the club after every home game. Couple of 5am finishes with Sticky, Cement and the like too.
Great days.
Sticky has some cracking yarns. That bloke has seen a lot in his years.
I do remember you being a strong stayer on the drink through the old touch footy days. Like you to many to mention on here but I do recall after being on it ftom midday after a tippy touch gf getting into a session with cement and sticky at the leagues club after a Sunday afternoon game.
Another good session was at the Phoenix Hotel 2003 I was with the boys whom I played touch with having our end of summer season drink They were our sponsors The whole Roosters team was there after they had beaten Newcastle the night before in a thriller we all had a big drink that afternoon and night
Good days and there were a few others I could mention but for now that’s good enough I also used to watch them train at ES Marks in the mid 90s as I lived right near there got to know most of the players pretty well Funniest I brought a mate with me one day whom Gus thought was a spy
It’s surmising how people are perceived as to how the actually are. I lived in Newtown up until a few years ago so would see blokes out & some are what you expect & others are different. At the time a single dad with a 15 yr old lad living with me, up until he was 20 & loved going back to the club & meeting all the players before then going to the pubs when old enough.
*At the club one night & Napa was having a drink with Pearce & he turned around & knocked a drink out of my lads hand do he took off his Roosters tie, signed it & gave it to him. Had a chat & a photo & he was all class.
*Pearce was fine & said hello but it looked like he was a bit over signing autographs & just wanted to be a lad & gave a laugh which I could understand as it would surely get to you getting pestered whenever out.
*Fergo once just gave me & my lad a filthy look as if yo say how dare you look at me or want a photo etc, just seemed fiery stand offish.
*JWH up at Wyong took photos with my lad,had a chat, shook hands etc & you could see how much the fans meant to him.
* My lad then worked at Kuetos Bar in Newtown & Hayne come in. Took pics with my lad,had a chat & couldn’t have been better.
* Living in Tumut & Justin Carney was once married to my missos friend & he is a hated man here. Went to the UK while she was pregnant, cheated on her & the family is a very long term old school local family & he comes back every now & again & has always thought he was a hero & too good for everyone.
I'm related to a former 100+ games Roosters player, I won't mention his name.
Unfortunately he is and has always been a Souths supporter.
I remember one Xmas someone in the family said to him you could have brought a few kilos of prawns along with all the brown paper bags you get.
He laughed and said we don't get bags of secret cash.
One of his sons said bullshit dad, who is paying for our private school fees and yours and mums cars, not you.
He smirked and said well I don't get bags of secret cash.

I went to school and played junior footy with Jason Hudson., we are still good mates and I catch up with him often on the Gold Coast.
I was living in Townsville in 1995 when the Roosters played the Cowboys up there .
After the game I joined them and had a buffet dinner with the team at there motel then got on the piss all night at Bullwinkels night club.
Met the whole squad and Gus Gould, it was a long time ago but I remember Adrian Lam , Jason Lowrie and Andrew Walker being great blokes .
Andrew Walker passing me his cigarette every time Gus came near him so he didnt get caught was funny. Gus seemed more like their father then there coach.

I once wrote a weekly column in a Sydney local paper several years ago. One week I had an interview with Trent Robinson lined up. He had only just joined the Roosters.
The interview was arranged for 5pm on a Thursday. On my way there I was caught in a traffic jam, there was a T20 international being played at the SCG.
I pulled over and called Robbo to explain the situation, and offered to to the interview over the phone. He shut that down and suggested I go to their Moore Park headquarters at 630am on the Saturday morning. I of course took him up on his offer. He could have easily brushed me off but he didn't.
I turned up early and saw players filtering in. The first player that turned up, around 620am was Daniel Mortimer. Anyway, we went through all of the questions and I turned off the tape recorder.
Robbo then just spoke to me about how he had made a point of showing the players what the eastern suburbs was about (I think he still does this). He was very accommodating. He also gave me a few hints that we were signing Michael Jennings and that SBW was a good chance also. Both came to fruition. He also said he expected Daniel Mortimer to have a productive season based on his commitment at training, which I thought he did.
We've crossed paths a couple of times since then and he still stops to say hello and shake my hand. A class act.

wentworth courier? if that's the case - hats of to you. i loved reading that
I went to a couple of schools and the initial one was that shit school up near the Roosters wall of fame, the only fond memories i had were taking some of my mates for lunch time visits to meet players i knew who hung out Bluey Thompson's and Bobby Camerons barber shop on Bronte Road. Funny times there. One of the players gets a mention in Arties book as being the funniest team mate in all his years in football. Ian Boffa Baker. Lots of other players as well but i'm no sycophant.
