  • Rooster interactions

Having read a few bits and bibs over the years about which player pops into whos shop and who knows who or had something to do with someone at the club, what are your claims to fame when it comes to the Roosters? Met any players, or staff etc… and I don’t mean being served your schnitty from a waiter at the club.

As a Canberra based Roosters supporter for the most part, I don’t get the opportunity to rub shoulders with the boys but my son attended a footy camp a few years back and had a bit of one on one time with Mini. Top bloke!

My only other thing would be getting a high five from Rocky at a game.

I do get to chat to Ricky a bit in Canberra from time to time and some of the stories he has from his time at the Roosters are priceless. Let’s just say Uncle Nick really doesn’t like souffs!

Only three meetings - 2 coaches, 1 player.

    1. Chris Anderson - at the old SFS circa 2007. We'd been smashed by the Broncos in the pouring rain. My mate, incredulous at the loss and wanting answers, waited beside the box after the game, and when Anderson emerged he screamed at him "Whats going on maaate?". Ando shook his head and walked off.

    2. Jason Taylor, outside the SFS once. Said hi to him. He didn't say hi back. Had a perpetual look on his face like he'd just smelled a disgusting egg-fart.

    3. Gave Willie Mason a cigarette after he'd been kicked out of the Central Coast Leagues club once. Quite a nice bloke believe it or not.

On my birthday in 2011, my dad organized a Skype call with the club, although the players I spoke to definitely aren't there anymore.
I was way too nervous at the time and couldn't say much, but I did have a little chat with Nate Myles, Aidan Guerra and Sam Perrett, among a few others.
Not really that relevant to a thread regarding interacting with our players now, but that's basically the only real life interaction I've had with players from the club.

They were all really nice and friendly though, and I appreciated them taking time out of their day to do that. Thought it was really cool.

        That’s definitely relevant. Great birthday!

My best mate I work with his Son is basically with the squad 24/7. Started with the club in the Covid bubble in QLD placed with Roosters by NRL. Made a huge impression particularly on Robbo and they 'signed' him from NRL. Is always on the field, in the sheds, video sessions etc so i hear some great stories and have seen some funny videos. I tell you what, he is as solid as a rock when it comes to injuries and signings with the club though, gives nothing away. Organisers some great videos for my 7 year old for Birthdays etc which she loves. I know Cath King is beyond important and popular with the club, but honestly triple that and thats what the players and staff think of her. When we mention Uncle Nick, we should probably mention Cath...obviously in a different way though

I remember Hugh McGahan and Brendan Hall helping with my school footy side as a kid, they were like gods to me

I've had plenty of interactions with Joey Manu, have played video games and spoken to him on numerous occasions which is pretty cool

That’s awesome! I’m not sure if I’m envious or jealous? Maybe both!

Don’t the kids get a kick out of seeing their idols turn up to training! Doesn’t matter what sport either. It’s just great to see top flight sports people getting personal at the grassroots level to put smiles on kids faces and give them belief.

A few over the years, but Artie was the highlight. I met him when he was doing a book signing, up here in Tamworth. At the time, Soward was tearing it up in President's Cup and I asked him if he was the future first grade half at the Roosters. He chuckled and said, "No. I don't think so." I replied, "You don't think so?" He repeated, "Not a chance," and laughed again, like I was insane for asking the question. Artie said he preferred the chances of Peter Taylor, an aboriginal half from Tamworth, who signed to Easts while still at school. Taylor never played firsts for Easts, but did make one appearance for Souths in 2005.

I remember Hugh McGahans forearms to this day, they made an impression lol
Still remember how good they were with us. We had a pretty good team for a public school but the kid who did the best in the team was a guy who ended up surfing on the world tour and even notched up a victory against Kelly Slater. Good times

Too many to gibber on about here, most after hours at clubs./pubs etc.

I did meet Artie at Easts Rules club once back in the late 80's - absolute gentleman. Had a good chat to Uncle once too in those early 2000's days when it was on back at the club after every home game. Couple of 5am finishes with Sticky, Cement and the like too.

                          Great days.

My first job was at City Ford at Botany. In those days players still had to work. David Michael's (touted as the fastest player in league then) worked as a car salesman there, had a few chats to him.

I do remember you being a strong stayer on the drink through the old touch footy days. Like you to many to mention on here but I do recall after being on it ftom midday after a tippy touch gf getting into a session with cement and sticky at the leagues club after a Sunday afternoon game.

Another good session was at the Phoenix Hotel 2003 I was with the boys whom I played touch with having our end of summer season drink They were our sponsors The whole Roosters team was there after they had beaten Newcastle the night before in a thriller we all had a big drink that afternoon and night
Good days and there were a few others I could mention but for now that’s good enough I also used to watch them train at ES Marks in the mid 90s as I lived right near there got to know most of the players pretty well Funniest I brought a mate with me one day whom Gus thought was a spy
