Ha the refs! Out here in the bush, we had a meeting last week to decide whether the comp could go ahead this season. Clubs spoke of the cost to run the game and how hard it was going to be. Players in general have agreed to reduce their match payments to help out, clubs talked about other ways to make sure the game could go ahead. It was a meeting where everybody seemed to be on the same page and working together for the good of the game. Then the referees were asked whether they were prepared to take a cut in match payments and the clubs were told no way! It costs upwards of $1500 for refs and touch judges on game day but there was no way our whistle blowers were prepared to do anything for the good of the game!

I dont know about that but I do know they have a very good side with a pretty good coach who regardless of whats happened this year were going to have a good season.Originally posted by bondi.boy View PostThe two refs system is being abolished because of what happened with the "6 again" 'debacle' in the last GF?
The Raiders are being given an easier draw in the new comp as "compensation"?

Listening to the interview with Robbo about this that is was a throw away comment at the end of an Apollo committee meeting for possible discussion in the future as a cost cutting measure and the media have just gone stupid over it.
In the old days it used to be the Ref looked after the ruck and touchies the offside. I will tell you what ic interesting, the touchies do a lot more talking that we realise I assume its the same in first grade but in NSW cup , Massey and Shield I watch a few videos and the touchies are always talking. Often its the ref that is ignoring them.Originally posted by JAF View PostWith one ref, the touchies will need to be more active with helping police the ruck and offside infringements.
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

I think the one ref decision is a positive rather than a negative. The 2 referees were quite often not on the same page and there was a lot of one over ruling the other or just blatantly ignoring him. One ref, one decision, no arguments. I also like the 6 again rule for ruck infringements. Keeps the game flowing and if a team gives away a few of them in a row fatigue will set in and the game will open up. Nothing like a penalty to give the offending team a rest, as the other team decide what they're doing and get in position.Supporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.

The bottom line is there was complaints when there was 1 ref then there was complaints when there was 2 refs so there is gonna be complaints still when it go's back to 1 ref.Originally posted by Bondicigar View PostThe 1 ref is so they get the 6 again call right....
Lose lose situation.
I must admit that the ref/refs dont really come into play for me when Im watching a game. I tend to watch individuals & dont closely watch every player in every ruck so at times when a penalty is blown I dont even know why the penalty is blown whether its to the Roosters or the opposition.

These days it's replay after replay, slow mo after slow mo. I'm a fan of 1 ref less scrutiny, mistakes will be made either way so why bother with over complicating things when you end up with the same result
