I have seen nothing in his play for the Roosters or NSW to make me think any differant that he is an above average 1st grade footballer and nothing more, he is not a match winner, he has an ordinary kicking game and his 2 main strengths defending and organising get found out more often than not.

I wish i could see the magic everyone else sees in this bloke, i just cant
    There it is.

Pearce is an above average first grade footballer.

Anyone expecting him to be Thurston/Johns is going to be disappointed, sure, OK, I get that. But at the same time, the whole "Soward is better" thing is just boring - mainly because he'll go to shit next year, but also because he too is simply an above average first grader, nothing more, nothing less.

Secondly, this club really does need to learn that you can win a premiership with a team of above average first graders. All it takes in attitude. And Pearce has the best attitude of anyone at this club. Which is why he shouldn't be booted, and we shouldn't sign every 18 year old halfback who sets up a try on debut.

If this club signed more "above average first graders" with attitudes like Pearces, as opposed to lazy, overpaid and uncaring ****wits like FPN and Anasta, we'd go a long way to being consistently successful.

How can Pearce do anything when NSW was completely dominated up front? I didn't see many people complaining last year about him, when the Roosters forwards were aiming up....

Has to be one of the biggest hogs in the game.

Below was the players ratings for the game. Its on the usual suspects that cannot see past there clear love for either Pearce or Soward that debate this shit every week. I saw them as pretty even last night. However over the the 3 games Pearce takes the points.

Jamie Soward Rarely found enough space to put his stamp on the game. 5

Mitchell Pearce A couple of nice passes but struggled to get into the game.5

                  Here's The Courier Mail's player rating for Pearce;

Kicked out on the full in ordinary first-half display that was part of a poor effort from a player farcically described by Blues coach Ricky Stuart as the "world's best halfback".

Yeah but thats the Courier Mail. If Santa played for NSW they would describe him as a selfish bastard!

Having said that....Pearce was ordinary last night.

I feel a bit sorry for him....people are reacting like it was he who claimed he was the best half back in the world, when in reality it was a comment from a very mis-guided coach. I don't think for a minute, that Pearce believes he's in the same class as Thurston

The Courier Mail should have taken heed from the correction from the journo at its sister paper, the Telecrap, who admitted to misquoting Ricky

Murdoch and Queensland - it doesn't get any more credible than that!!

Pearce came out in the media and said the quote was ridiculous.

He labelled rickys comments last yr as embarrassing when he said make pearce captain.

It's amazing the see that RC has repeatedly said that this thread was NOT about SOO but about Pearce's OVERALL form this year, yet people keep quoting ratings and comments from last night's game!!!!!!

I'll jump in with my two cents' worth since every Tom Dick and harry has had a go.

I'll start by declaring that I have been a fan of Soward since his Flegg days, and was very peeved off when Stuart dropped him after a very promising start in '06 for his lovechild (Finch). Soward had 2 MOTM and a 2nd best on the ground in the 1st 5 games of the season, and that preek of a coach dropped him.

I have read post after post over the last 4 years telling us what a talent Pearce is, and that once fully developed he will surpass the likes of Joey, Langer, Sterling and Mortimer. Well I am still waiting to see that "talent". He has put in some sporadic good performances, the odd sensational game or two, but has NEVER taken a game by the scruff of the neck and dragged his team from near defeat to victory.

Last year he had a freak of a talent, who had a freak of a season, which let Pearce have a reasonably good season with less than the normal pressure heaped on him. This year without Carney outside him he has looked clueless, especially in games we had our forwards dominate, and had in excess of 50% possession, yet he and Anasta could come up with ZILCH scoring plays, especially on last tackle options.

Four years is plenty to show if you've got it or not. What pearce has is average at best, and he will NEVER rise to the heights that his fanclub expect him to reach.

From a personal point of view, I'd rather have a player with Soward's talents than someone as presdictable as Pearce in my team.
