It's a bit odd isn't it!?!?
Our on field "leader" Mitchell Pearce and our forwards "leader" JWH both not chosen for very different reasons.
Jake Friend had a little dummy spit about the rumour he would lose the captaincy. Mmmmmmmmmm???
I hate this co-captain crap, I just cant work out what is wrong with a captain & a vice captain. To me it is a weak option from the coach.
I believe the captain should be a player that is on the field for 80 minutes & in the Roosters case that bloke should be Pearce but congrats to Cordner.
Me too...What is this obsession of co-captain. The reason a player becomes captain of a team is because they command respect from teammates and the general public, usually AND its a big honour for the player. This co-captain thing is another sign that Robinson lacks the balls to make definite decisions and sack Friend. It's like he thinks that if he shares the responsibility around, he'll have another to take the blame when things go wrong.
Never been a fan of the CoCaptain, however we are entering a new era with limited interchange , maybe it will help the Coach make strategic changes as weaknesses are identified.
Rotating Players can be tasked to ensure directional shifts and "targets " are carried out while they are fresh.

I think it has to do with keeping team harmony.
From memory when Mini retired, all the players were asked who they thought would make the next best captain and I think Friend polled the majority of the votes.
The last thing we need this year is for the team to be split.
I personally prefer an outright captain and vice-captain, but can also understand why Robbo would choose this path to ensure our season is not derailed before a ball is kicked, just like last year!

If the bloke was not a Mental Basket case that Cracks under pressure he would be a great captain, Toops also plays 80 mins with the same impact in most games lol

I actually thought that every game Pearce played in last year that he tried his guts out. There is no question that he always puts in but I just thought in 2016 he went above & beyond. I know people have been saying for a while that Pearce was going to take his game to the next level but I believe this year he will take his game to the next level.

Agree 100%. A significant part of Coaching is Man MAnagement and keeping the Locker Room.
Even if Jake was a poor captain; it would test the limits of many coaches to cut and paste a new one; rather to transition over a season and allow Cords his chance to shine. Too much money on the line to cut and paste and potentially lose the support of the team and ultimately Robbo's job.

Whilst his effort was admirable, PEarce should never be given the opportunity to lead our team as captain. His off-field behaviour and leading young players to break club and coach's edict can be fore given but not forgotten

No one not even me has ever said Pearce does not try, the bloke does not have the mental capacity to play footy and captain, when a clutch play is on he is not the man you want with the ball, field goal anyone? Just let him play with no added pressure, he owes this club and it's fans a hell of a lot, captaincy would have been the least of his worries
In a well run disciplined team the Coach is judge, jury and executioner. He makes the calls...the players need to fall into line or suffer the consequences.
Co-captaincy is rubbish and a first step to "make your own rules guys".PC nonsense infiltrating sport.
JWH as the skipper for my liking and Cordner as vice captain.
Time to move on from the Pearce and Friend co captaincy and petulant Friend as the sole captain.
Yeah, I would've gone down that path as well, but congrats to Boyd anyway.
Ostensibly he'll be the only captain when on the field.
