I would given neither Cordner or Guerra play lock.Originally posted by Bigchook View PostCopley isn't a first grade player. I've seen enough of him over three years. Elliot has the potential but undecided. Wouldn't be surprised to see matterson at lock when cordner and Guerra go on origin duties....

Elliott is a depth player and like last season will revert to Wyong when first choice players are fit and ready to play.Originally posted by Insider View Post
And it sure won't b due to Copley. It won't necessarily b Elliott on the wing over the next month or so, may b Tupou or burgess, but if we are winning games Robinson won't change the team barring injury ....

Copley has potential, he was very good in 2014. If he can recapture that form he'll be a good buy.
Toops is a beast and his place in the side is more then guaranteed. People wanting to displace him for a five-eighth who's played two games is hilarious. Especially since Burgess didn't turn out to be the hero they expected.

Liu is a middle third forward, which is a Lock or if required a front rower, he probably doesn't have the lateral movement in defence to play second row which is a left or right fringe position. SST could for sure. If Matto plays in the Centres going forward then why switch him during origin? More likely SST and Aubo to the second row with Liu and Vunacaki at Lock.Originally posted by Bigchook View Post
Would it surprise you if liu played second row? I'm just saying. Liu, matterson, tko.. Whoever. They'll probably all play back row or lock over that period....

I am not sold on Copley but anyone thinking that after signing him on a 3 year 350k a year contract that he will be consigned to Wyong after 2 games is clearly a little deluded.Originally posted by roostersrule2 View PostCopley has potential, he was very good in 2014. Got to disagree on Elliott, when you look at most wingers in the comp these days just being competent makes you first grade standard and I think he's been developing nicely this season. We'll have a better picture in 3 months time though when Copley comes back into calculations.Originally posted by Cockadoodledoo View Post
Elliott tries hard but isn't First grade standard. Despite the criticism he received, Copley should be in the team when fit and in the Wing position. The guy has a knack for finding the tryline.
Personally I think Burgess is the one with the most potential but he's clearly still adjusting to the standards of the NRL.

I don't see why that would matter if they're worth it...Originally posted by Insider View PostCopley and skid would b about 650 of cap on the wings, probably a bit rich generally wouldn't wanna b allocating that much for your wingmen.
I'd argue the 300k we've been paying SKD this year is the best return on capital we've had out of any player so far... playing on the wing isn't what it was a few decades ago.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Matterson used as a lock at full-strength.Originally posted by Bigchook View PostCopley isn't a first grade player. I've seen enough of him over three years. The game is changing and I think we'll start to see the role of ball playing locks ala Freddy Fittler 2 decades ago start coming back into the game. The game is still very power focused so it'll be a brave coach who experiments first but someone like Matterson would be very capable. The balance of the side would have to be sport on though and I think we're probably a fair way away from that the moment given the makeup of our back line.

You post some good stuff R6
IMO Neither Elliott nor Burgess are first grade material at Easts...
Mattersom looks like a first-grader though...

I think Elliot is a good solid depth player but not a season long starting centre (or winger). Perhaps in some other squads, he might get more of a look in but not with the roster Robbo has at his disposal when it's at full strength. As for Matterson - he looks good, I agree but it's way too early to be making grand pronouncements on him. Everyone thought Tariq Sims would be the next big thing only for him to go to Newcastle and end up being just another second rower. I'm not saying he's not a good second rower, just that he hasn't lived up to his early hype.
