Trent Robinson has done nothing, and has learnt his trade under Smith. Not sure if that is the way to go. My preference would be to appoint Taylor, given he is probably signed to the club for next year. Most options being thrown around are not proven, and to bring them in would require a multi year contract. Give it to JT for a year and see how he goes, gives us a chance to chase Bellamy also, or stick with JT.

Any coach that comes in should walk the team next door and watch the Swans train for a week or two. Those guys play for each other, have rarely been out of a game for years, and put their bodies on the line. They aren't the most talented, but work hard. Could learn a lot from them.

Id be suprised if Smith coaches us next year.I reckon that we are playing worse this year than last year.He has had a full season with no disruptions and minimal injury problems except for Dowall and all that he has achieved is a challenge to Parra for the spoon, even if we dont get the spoon and parra does the reality is that they have just flogged us.We havnt got a bad roster of players when you look at it they have all underperformed this year. There is something radically wrong at the roosters.

I'm thinking that since the coaches forum is coming up it'll be talking about their plans for 2013 with Smith a big part of it... Would be strange for him to head a coaches forum but then not be the coach a few weeks later..

I dont follow the AFL but I do know the Swans are on top of the ladder & I know this coach took over from Roos & he is doing a remarkable job.The players have responded to him & want to play & win for him.

I actually watched the 4th quater last weekend & they are sharp, they hardly knock on & they get alot of marks & can run from one end to the other in 2 kicks. Kieren Jack who is killing it looked to me like he would have made a top 1/2 back in League.

            - In 2010 as Roosters defensive coach he took the worst defensive outfit if 2009 and turned them into one of the best (http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/n...rom=public_rss)

            - In 2011 he took the 2010 English Super League wooden spooners to 6th place as head coach. (http://www.rleague.com//db/year/2011...ague/index.php)

            - In 2012 he's continued the Dragons improvement and they currently sit in 4th place (http://www.superleague.co.uk/)

            Success is just a coincidence?

I don't think that is enough to give the bloke 3 or 4 year contact.

I don't buy into the theory that it would be too disruptive to sack Smith now. Look what's happened to the Eels since Kearney went. Look what happened when Anderson went & Fittler took over. Smith should have been sacked week's ago. I just cannot comprehend how the side keeps making the same mistakes over and over again & nothing appears to be getting done about it.

Does Friend keep running down the blind side because that's the game plan or is he going against instructions. Either way, if it's the first it's bloody obvious it rarely works and if it's secondly Friend should be dropped for going against instructions. But nothing changes........ ever. I turned off the other night with 20 to go and it's the 3rd time this season I've done that. I could count on the 1 hand the number of times I've done it in the last 35 years. Even with the arrival of maloney & possibly SBW next year I cannot see how we are going to improve when we have not improved in any aspect in the last 2 years.

And another thing, Smith in the pre-match interview the other night said words to the effect that we were'nt going to get caught up in a game of touch football....from the short kick off it was obvious that this hadn't been communicated to the players & if it was they had completely ignored him. Either way Smith has to go & for all I care the tooth fairy could take over & do a better job.

I think one question which should be asked at the coaches forum is, "How is it that a team with three former or current first grade coaches, has no structure in defence or attack?", lets see how Noyce can segue the "we have a young , developing squad" line into that one.
                      Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

Only 69 votes so far, how many members here ? So I suppose the majority just dont feel strongly enough to vote so we have a real small sample. I wonder if these are the feeling of the wider supporters ?

Anyway you guys have put up decent alternatives, the one I reckon is a must (if possible) is get Dean Pay back. Dymock, Robinson (to me preferred) or JT would seem good options.

Smithy might be a triffic fella, and a maybe a good coach, put clearly it aint working here. Stuff like that happens in workplaces. I think he should stand down, but with the earner he's on why would he ?

Pity there's not a performance element in his contract.
How do you know there isn't one, it might be something like if you get us to a GF every 3 years, you get to keep your job!?

All senior jobs have performance measures, like execs get shares so they have an interest in the company doing well then their shares are worth more. Some have a performance pay incentive.

Like you Artie I dont know if they do this with coaches, but I would reckon it would have to be in their contract in some way. I dont think its as easy as doing it like execs because of things like injuries, suspensions etc which could impact on how a team does.

My point was if the performance clause in his contract is something like if you get us to a GF every 3 years, you get to keep your job, then he has met this KPI, that GF appearance in 2010 might carry more weight than anyone on this forum is giving credit, it's much more than a Neil Henry, Furner, Sheens, Cartwright or Flanagan have achieved in the last 3 years, just saying.

Yep, get the point. And IF that was a clause & he met it then technically he keeps the gig. Surely though the blokes at the top dont want to see him get his objective in year 1 and the side going backwards there after.

In the end this is just a forum and the suits wouldnt give a toss about what said here.

Well after we got the spoon in 2009, it might have seemed like a long shot to get there in the first year & then go backwards for the next 2, that old hindsight thing has a lot to answer for!!
