Some lovely fresh snapper came in from Coffs Harbour today while i was at South West Rocks, the trawlers couldnt get out at South West Rocks yesterday because of the crappy weather yesterday but a few got out up in Coffs and a local i know at SWR was getting some delivered while i was there so got some which he filleted and had two lovely big fillets, only BBQ one because it was enough for two people so have another fillet to have tomorrow or the next day. Better half reckons it was better than the Pearl Perch the other night, i disagreed but still the snapper was lovely, just had with sliced potato on the BBQ and left over salad.

Going great so far except for spilling food all over anything i decide to wear clean. Been big king tides up here like everywhere else so really havent been worth wetting a line yet. People here at the park are getting a lot of yabbies right in front of where we are staying but havent seen any fish caught from them yet.Originally posted by Bates View Post

Nice one mate. I'm hoping to head down to Narooma at the end of the month for a change of scenery. The fishing and diving are exceptional!Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post

My family used to go down to Narooma a lot for holidays when I was a kid. We would stay at Dalmeny. It’s a nice relaxing place. Dad would always go fishing and take us kids with him with our little fishing rods.Originally posted by Bates View Post

Went to the Stuarts Point Bowling Club to play trivia tonight and had the Wed special of T Bone steak with chips and salad which came with a drink. Will i say its the best steak i have ever had , No but it was far from the worst i have had either, decent chips and salad with it, there was something just charming and satisfying about it and also with the glass of wine we had with it, it was filled well above the mark.

We 99% of the time went to the North Coast for holidays as a kid . South we went a few times for a weekend down to Bream Beach at St Georges Basin but the first and only real holiday we went south was to Dalmeny, we stayed in a duplex with another family who were friends who my father knew through work, the place backed onto the lake which had a jetty and one of the other family sons caught a nice flathead off the jetty. This was the property that we caught a huge funnel web spider inside and so we caught it and pickled it in metho in a jar, i remember my father not sleeping much after that.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

The area around Narooma was beautiful as was Bermagui and Turross Lakes, the milkshakes at Bodalla were fabulous. Have really only been that far south once since probably about 10-12 years ago now when stayed with friends in Bega, will have to get down around there again as the South Coast is stunning, just hate the road down South Coast, the Princes Highway is a real goat track.

Oh I didn’t realise it was at Dalmeny where you caught the funnel web spider and pickled it lol. I remember you mentioning that once. We did about 3 trips up to Queensland too in the 70’s / 80’s to the Sunshine Coast mainly and Gold Coast once. Dad would drive all the way with a night stay close to the QLD border. We were there in 74 when the cyclone hit and we had to stay in Brisbane a few nights on our way home as it was flooded. But when we weren’t in QLD on a big trip we’d be in Dalmeny. Like yours my parents would rent the same house each time but ours backed onto the nature reserve. We did swimming, fishing with Dad, he used to have to bait all our lines lol, and also we sometimes would catch prawns at night. Then the next day he would cook them. Mum never went fishing or catching prawns with us though. She’d always find other things to do by herself. Great memories and yes the south coast s beautiful.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post

We would go prawning at Bream Beach at St Georges Basin when we went there for weekends but when i was very young we used to stay with a aunty who lived at Long Jetty on the Central Coast and used to go prawning down on the lake with the drag nets and hurricane lanterns and i remember cooking the prawns on the sand down in the lake, this was back in the late 60 s.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Most of the holidays a bit later on were all North to Evans Head, Stuarts Point ( where i am now ) and also then Port Macquarie. We had plenty of relatives at Evans Head and Stuarts Point so mum had plenty of things to do with aunts, uncles etc while the men were out fishing.Last edited by horrie hastings; 02-04-2026, 11:02 PM.
