  • Surely in the 1st game/early season you would be concentrating on the basics of the game though as obviously you are not going to be playing your top game early in the season.

So getting the basics right such as high set completions/good kick and chase game /defence/ low errors and disciplined footy is what you would want from your 17 players as a minimum.

What is it will ball control and the inability to have high set completions ? - NRLW and Junior Reps/Pathway sides have the same problem - one of the lowest or lowest set completions in their respective comps.

They wont beat an egg let alone be a genuine contender if they do not improve all aspects of their game starting with the basic fundamentals.

The Stats are dreadful reading and in reality unacceptable even for a first game- same grime same flannel as they say for a number of these stats.
    • Possession 46% to 54%
    • Set Completions 65% ( 25/36) vs 79% (34/43)
    • Tackles in opposition 20 - 19 vs 31 - 16 of those for the Chooks were in the second half to Knights 10
    • Set Restarts - 2 vs 1
    • Line Breaks - 0 vs 7
    • Offloads - 5 vs 11 - all 5 offloads for Chooks in the second half to Knights 3
    • All Runs -168 ( 1410 metres ) vs 189 ( 1726 metres)
    • Post Contact Metres - 555 metres vs 677 metres
    • Tackle Breaks - 13 vs 35
    • Kicks - 19 ( 502 metres) vs 21 ( 580 metres)
    • Tackles - 392 ( 35 missed) vs 333 ( 13 missed)
    • Ineffective tackles - 18 vs 11
    • Errors - 12 vs 10
    • Penalties conceded - 7 vs 7
    • On Report - 2 (Radley and Collins) vs 0
    • Sin Binned - 0 vs 1

Wrap the ball up properly and stop letting them drive the legs, Jesus sometimes we can be all about the system and tackle selection but lack aggression in technique.
Agree with your observations. The Roosters had to make 60-odd more tackles and missed 22 more tackles than the noughts, Stats like that are entirely on the players.

      • When I get home, I'm gonna have a few drinks, watch the cricket (aussies off to a good start with the bat) and pretend that the season doesn't start until next week

        • Wow...didn't see that coming. Would class that as one of the biggest upsets I can recall against us.

Too much hype and obviously a bit underdone. Let's hope indeed that Robbo is playing the long game.

Only highlight was seeing Kez the little champ back on deck and getting through game 1. We miss Vic so much when he's not out there.

          So much for fortress SCG.

Whoever put Radley on report needs to be removed from any rugby league position. FMD.

            • The whole team was flat, Sitilli & Rads get a 5 out of 10 but the rest were a 3 or a 4.
From my observations Manu played wing & Momirovski played centre, I dont know if thats the right combo, Billy Smith was schooled before he went off.
The try to Tupou & a kick in front, who knows whats happens.
Well done to Newcastle they looked good.

100%. Friends and Cords were the 1% kings. The tackle that had to be made, the tough run out of our 10 that had to made...not always obvious and easily taken for granted by fans. But provides confidence for team mates. The grafters, not the flashy players. And so mentally tough.

                  How we miss them now.

The Roosters & Souths could both be winless for the Rd 3 clash.
