Bears players singing club song after today's win. First time I've seen players with song sheets for the words. A pretty rousing version nonetheless...

The Bears run out to either Big Black Bears Are Back On The Road Again....or the stirring Stand Aside, one of the truly great footy anthems.

Hi again gents, thanks for your feedback. It was an absolute pleasure being able to watch the Bears game today (and the second half of the Flegg game). I am in Taree for the next month, left Sydney today and decided to detour through Cessnock to watch the game.
Here’s a short summary: It was a hot, dry day, and both teams needed to be on their game if they were going to get a result. Looking at teams on paper, the Bears had 7 or 8 players with first grade experience (not even including Kevin Naiqama, and Freddy Lussick, who were late exclusions); and they were going to rely on that experience if they were to win today.
The bears got off to the worst possible start when Naufahu Whyte was carried back into the in-goal area off the kick off, but the boys defended well to keep the Knights out. The Bears then dominated the next half hour of the game, running in 3 unanswered tries. Daniel Suluka-Fifita was a colossus with the ball in hand, carting it up with real aggression. Marshke looked to be creative out of dummy half, and even Lam looked dangerous when he got early, clean ball in attacking positions.
Whether it was fatigue or complacency, the boys then started to switch off a bit 5 minutes before half time, and poor handling not only lead to the first Knights try, but also to a cheap turnover with only seconds remaining, and Sandton Smith had no choice but to flop on a tackled Knights player, getting himself sin binned. The knights scored in the last play of the first half, and then in the first set of the second half, and looked as if they may completely run away with the game. But the Bears dug deep, and they dished out some big hits in defence to force errors. Whyte and Hau Tapuha were instrumental in this.
After a bit of to and fro, the Bears experience was enough to get them over the line in the end, with Lam, Keighran and Whyte being instrumental in coming up with the big plays.
321’s in my humble opinion:
3 - Lam
2 - DSF
1 - Whyte/Keighran
- Cooper Cronk' scapula.

Don't expect changes this week, but it's good to keep some pressure on our first 17.

Interesting to hear about Fifita, thought he was probably the standout player of the trials for us this year.
I had high hopes for him last year but just seemed to lose the plot, I know plenty on here have written him off but I’m still really hopeful he can put it all together because I think there’s a really good player in there.
