Not at all mate...........because Boyd creates second phase play sammy does not....Boyd puts players through holes... Sammy does not....Boyd creates gaps + try assists sammy does not... Boyd breaks tackles and you know it sammy does not.
Like I said take away the dummy half runs what do you have left??
Doesn't break tackles? Are you taking the piss? I recall Andrew Ryan saying he was the toughest player to tackle in the NRL. He said there could be three players on him and you think you've got him and then he's free all of a sudden. I really struggle to fathom how there is ever any question regarding his place in the side. He is a lot better in defence than he's given credit for. He's saved countless tries with his cover defence. He is quicker than he appears also, especially without the ball in hand. He's great in the air on attacking kicks, however does struggle a little on defensive ones where he has less of a run up. He never fails to make 10m to start our sets. Sometimes makes multiple hit-ups in a set which is invaluable in the middle third of a game.
You are comparing a playmaking fullback to a winger. Do you really expect your winger to make that many try assists?? And I'd hazard a guess that his low try scoring strike rate is somewhat influenced by the fact that SKD can't draw and pass after most of his breaks. And when he does make a break that doesn't lead to an error he is often the one scoring the try.
Then lets go back to 2011 when Perret was out, we all saw the difference in the side from when he was out to when he returned.
Perrett is no super star, but there is one thing he is, consistant !
since he started playing league, he has scored between 9 and 5 tries per season, over the past 5 years he has been in the top 5/6 for try scorers in the Roosters.
His defence on the wing is strong and his combination with SKD is fantastic, he has the defensive nouse to make up for SKD's brain explosions.
He is solid under the highball, his drop on monday night was the first in a LOOOONNG time, even that he was interfered with.
What sam does is add stability, he starts off our sets, breaks the first tackle and makes meters, helping out the forwards.
Don't underestimate Sam's effect on the team. like i said, he's not a star player, but he is VERY underated !
2011 we had no options, it has not been hard to shine at the Roosters for many yrs now
5 tries a season pppffftt and considering the Roosters since 05 have been rubbish the top 5/6 try scorers is not something to boast about!!
As for dropped balls there have been a few being honest about that one!!!
Sammy does add value but I think we need to go to the next level as a team and look at every player and I dont think he has that next level.
AND before everyone goes nuts I am not a Sammy hater lol

Muz I think people overstate his influence on the team when he came back in 2011. It was an up and down year. I tend to agree with most of what you say, I'm not suggesting he is under pressure at the minute, but I want more points form my winger. I just hope some of these new recruits put some pressure on his position in the team. He is as you say a solid player, however I want someone a little more dynamic with plenty more points.

I did not make the FB to winger comparison mate someone else did and I responded.

NOW we are cooking with gas well done mate, I want MORE too.
it's not about labeling people sammy haters or not Yak, it;s about value add to a team, not all players will be top try scorers, there will always be others that score more, or we would have all wingers/centres scoring 10 tries a season
Last year, Sam scored 5 tries in 12 games, avg of a try every 2.4 games, Which is on par with a similar player in the same position and fellow international Jason Nightingale (who played 25 games last season scored 10 tries, avg 1 try per 2.5 games)
The Roosters get alot of value out of Sam and he is one that will always put his hand up to do it.
So we can say, "take away the hitups and what do we have?", but thats like saying take away SKD's tries and what do we have. PLayers are there for a purpose, it's team balance.

I remember a comeback, more than 10 yrs ago, at the SFS, 10 to go, playing the faiders, down by 14 and we pulled a splice out of our arses that arvo.
That was great but last night I'm sure was something else altogether considering the occasion, the opposition and the time factor. Ive been getting compliments all day, not that I did much, but it still fells bloody great to love the Coq.
