Maybe giving financial/investment advice but no they are all on payroll.

I would highly doubt that any player would have set themselves up as a company for tax purposes or be allowed to by the ATO - It would mean any employee in Australia could do the same

Haven't looked too much into it in relation to salary sacrifice options players have available in line with ATO rulings and the range of tax deductions they have to lower the tax payable

      • Anyway, the point is they NEED to be set up with strong financial advice from the start. At 21 if I had been on $300K I would have blown the lot. I think the clubs and the NRL have a duty of care about these guys. No insult implied, but they are mostly average guys intellectually, and the pressure these days is amazing. Can you imagine being under scrutiny 24/7 through your 20's, when you were on top coin and as fit as a snake?

it's a different game from when a player could blow his entire wage for the year in one night at thommo's two up school. you'd figure they'd make good advice available but you can only lead a horse to water ...

          • Im sure the RLPA negotiated a players retirement fund when the last TV rights came up. They get a percentage of the money from the TV deal something like 36% & they have a retirement fund set up.

I’d be getting laid like a rag doll!

I think their families have more of a responsibility than their clubs to make sure they are money smart.

Haha...Big Jack signed on for Newtown I think it was (as a player) and blew his whole years wages that night in a card game. If you gamble, money can easily disappear, esp sitting in front of a poker machine.

                        Stick to law ISM.
Aaaaw your put-down hurt my feelings :P

Stick to being the stupid but friendly dude. As I said... he won't be lining up at Cenno any time soon. Tweak the numbers as you wish if it makes you feel like the big man, but Fergo's got property and super. An extra $1-2m to play in Japan woulda been nice but it wasn't to be. He'll survive.

We now have a deranged anti vaxxer pointing the finger at professional athletes and questioning THEIR intellect?? Norfolk, you are truly the gift that keeps on giving, you twit.

Suddenly you’ve added property onto his super portfolio to support your argument. I hope you argue better than that in court.

I didn’t say he wouldn’t survive. His mentor is Anthony Mundine so he’ll be fine.

                            • I’m not too sure about his property portfolio jizz, when he left the roosters for the big contract at parra, his main thing was to finally buy a house, if he hadn’t by that stage, who knows if he did while at parra, and if he did, he most probably didn’t buy it outright, also it seems he moved in with Mundine, not sure why he wouldn’t move into his own place if he had one.
