There were plenty of women and children at games in the 80's.
The poor souls must be still traumatised.
Les Boyd/ John Donnelly/Bob Cooper and to a lesser extend Royce Ayliffe and Johnny Harvey were popular players who brought crowds through the gate as well- for an example Lidcombe Oval was often jammed packed for Magpie Home games with the excess crowd even sitting on the bike track near the ground - NSWRL didn't worry about that.

Daunting place to go Lidcombe Oval even as a spectator as the Magpie crowd would be revved up on Tooheys/KB etc even more so than the Magpie Players

Some players nowadays are lucky they were not playing back then one has to say even with the faults with the current system- loading % 's / how offences are graded/no mitigating circumstances and how one has to play 7 years offence free footy before being eligible for a discount instead of say a points accrual system for each game played without an offence that can be used to offset future offences i.e say 10 points a game perpetually accruable.

Carryovers are reduced by 5 points for each game played without an offence so a player without any carryovers or previous offences get nothing for it until they play 7 years of offence free footy to be eligible for a discount other than an early plea discount when charged.
