Their ability to keep and build around the likes of Smith, Salter and Cronk for the best part of a decade and a half will always be in question for me because those 3 never truly hit the open market until after the salary cap scandal broke in 2014 and then they were still allowed to see out their contracts current contracts. So I'm not sure they've had the full experience of salary cap pressures yet. Once Papenhuyzen, Grant and Munster start to get top dollar under the salary cap key word being under then let's see what happens.
For me whether Papenhuysen, Grant & Munster play for Melbourne or not has no bearing on whether I think they will be in the top 4.
Melbourne are totally about Bellamy who like Robbo is the culture of their club, he drives everything so if those 3 werent playing for them Hynes, B Smith & another 5/8 who they would develop would fill the void.
I love Robbo who I think is a top coach/man manager of good & very good players but for me Bellamy gets unknown players some of limited ability who end up being good & very good players. Th Storm may have problems down the track once Bellamy is no longer at the helm.

        Yes you can.
You can do whatever you like.
What the Dogs are doing now hasn't exactly been a roaring success.
If not $700,000, he could certainly get 600 or 500.
You can rent new homes at Oran Park,
Glenmore Park for $500pw, ones Toops could buy outright for $700,000 or $800,000.
$600pw rent if you buy wisely.

Not once in the 50 years of watching the game have I ever seen this.

Although some ex players talk about it now (Fatty tells a greta story about his first contract)..I digress...

This is all just the usual speculation with no basis whatsoever!

We can guess and I'm sure we would be close on many, but that is all it is, A GUESS!

Some agents feed the media figures, and we know they are not honest as they are using the media to get a better deal for their own player. (and themselves)

The difference between getting 4 or 5 players salaries wrong by as little as $30k in guessing can mean the difference in whether a team keeps certain players and leads to BS speculation about salary sombreros etc.

Anyway, as they say, it makes for good discussion, but usually with boneheads who have no depth of thought to realise that hey don't have a clue either!! (and there are a many of these in the RL community)

          Leaks.

            Cotric...$600,000
            Nofoaluma ...$550,000
            Oates...$520,000
            Ferguson...$470,000

Toops is as good as them.
            Better than some of them.

Unders is way overrated these days.
At the very least Toops deserves a 3 yr contract....for whatever he's happy to sign for.

We have enough problems without seeing our "lethal left side" completely demolished.
Fans deserve to see at least some semblance of our b2b teams playing for us next season.

He might if his long term future is settled.
He might not if he's seen the end of his career looming in a short 36 months and the days of earning above average income ending.
                Does he have a trade?
Is he trained for any job?
What will become of him when footy ends?

Agree, it doesn't matter who is out for them the next bloke comes into the system and fills the void.
Reimis Smith and George Jennings joined them this year and were very average players in poor teams yet Bellamy has turned them into quality first graders. He squeezes every ounce of ability out of every player and improves them which to me is the hallmarks of a great coach/ teacher.

I know we are short on troops, but seriously how long would Bellamy have put up with Lam in the same situation. He would have turned a winger or centre into a decent 5/8 or turned Lam into a half decent player. That’s the Robbo / Bellamy difference.

with his victory in the gf last year bellamy, for me, claimed the mantle as best nrl/nswrl coach so far. his teams have been there or thereabouts every year for the last two decades. bellamy seems to be a hard task master and the effect of that is his teams always do well. robbo knows when to pull the trigger but he's a diff personality to bellamy and while he mightn't match bellamy in getting the best out of a team in every match he beats him in getting the best out of a team in gfs.

                          and i hope toops stays

The club has to show some fukking loyalty to players like Toops and Liu......we shouldn't be losing them, just pay them what they are worth on the market.

Not even close to being that simple

Toops for the last 8 years has probably been our best value signing, you would definitely have to question the club if toops is let go, unless radradra is his replacement.
