Losing Maubs, Cordner, Friendy and Liu all in the last 12 months has been hard enough.

Not sure I could take seeing another potential club legend leave the club in Toops.

Robinson rebuilt the 2016 squad into a back to back premiership winning side within 3 years so I will always have belief in him and the decisions he makes moving forward but this one will still hurt.

These are the realities of the salary cap unfortunately. Got to bring in bigger dispensations for 200+ game players especially when they've done it all at one club.

He bought the two best players in their position available, Teddy and Cronk delivered those premierships, without them, we would of just battled away.

it’s chequebook time to buy the best in the game again, but the two best players in the comp aren’t available this time round(and we still have Teddy) so don’t need turbo, and Cleary won’t leave penrith. So not sure who we target to make us a force next year. Brandon Smith and finucane would be a great double if losing SST and Liu happens.

I can't imagine Toops takes up too much of the cap. Give him 3yrs. You won't get a player of his quality for that money. And I base that on always hearing how he stays for unders.

It's a shame, he has been one of my faves but he has really plateaued out.

Toops was meant to be leaving to Parra about 4 or 5 years back. Love Toops and hope this is just more BS so I'll reserve judgement until a club makes an official announcement.

They will win the comp again in a canter & show that players bought in on a budget to complement a few stars can still win it.They loose players every year & get written off but Bellamy is a class above in coaching.Already even though they are losing players they are still signing new ones & yet so far nothing from us.Storm don’t bottom out or rebuild & as much as I hate them they’re the benchmark & culture setters unfortunately.
I can see us dropping down to that next rung for a few years & Storm/Panthers will be the powers.

Salaries of heaps of players detailed.
Poor Toops is not listed anywhere in the list of well paid players.
Every right to be upset, outraged, and disillusioned.
Seems "every" good player and not so good player in the NRL is getting paid more than Toops.

Time for Toops to become unreserved...and get himself a decent $2.1m contract for 3 years somewhere else.
Manu is listed as getting $700,000...Toops could get close to that at a club rebuilding.
Radley is listed at $500,000...Toops could certainly get that somewhere else.

Dogs could do a lot worse than sign Toops for 3 years at $700,000 a season.
With the extra Toops could buy himself a rental property in Sydney and rent it out for $500pw for the rest of his life, as a basic income post footy career....a nice little earner on top of any future salary. The $500 keeps rolling in every 7 days.

It's not all about that for some blokes.Just like in real life where people undertake lower paying jobs because they enjoy what they do.Also Toops seems to be a guy that likes to be a small fish in a big pond & doesn't like the attention. Couldnt see him being a bloke at the Dogs on 700k with all the attention & expectation on performing week in week out,hes not a leader.
Also just because you get paid big money doesnt mean you perform.Id rather a bargain who is loyal & busts the gut over 50% of the players on that lost who are now lazy,pea hearts because of their salary.

You can’t spend $700k on a winger. I reckon Dogs spent no more than $500k on Fox.

Let's wait and see, this will be a real test for the Melbourne Storm if they do go back to back and can't register double contracts to keep their core group of players together this time around.

Their ability to keep and build around the likes of Smith, Salter and Cronk for the best part of a decade and a half will always be in question for me because those 3 never truly hit the open market until after the salary cap scandal broke in 2014 and then they were still allowed to see out their contracts current contracts. So I'm not sure they've had the full experience of salary cap pressures yet. Once Papenhuyzen, Grant and Munster start to get top dollar under the salary cap key word being under then let's see what happens.

How does anybody outside of the player (possibly his family/friends) his agent, the club or the NRL have a clue what any single player is on?

Has anybody ever heard one of the above come out and say categorically and on record what is in a players contract!

Not once in the 50 years of watching the game have I ever seen this.

Although some ex players talk about it now (Fatty tells a greta story about his first contract)..I digress...

This is all just the usual speculation with no basis whatsoever!

We can guess and I'm sure we would be close on many, but that is all it is, A GUESS!

Some agents feed the media figures, and we know they are not honest as they are using the media to get a better deal for their own player. (and themselves)

The difference between getting 4 or 5 players salaries wrong by as little as $30k in guessing can mean the difference in whether a team keeps certain players and leads to BS speculation about salary sombreros etc.

Anyway, as they say, it makes for good discussion, but usually with boneheads who have no depth of thought to realise that hey don't have a clue either!! (and there are a many of these in the RL community)
