Or save their rough and tumble high performance crash tackling for game days!

Yes, high performance the players out for the season with lacerated kidneys! [where was the protective gear?]
      Baaah!

These players are milliion dollar 'cattle'/'racehorses'...care is needed.

Lucky we kept Justin Carney, eh?

Granted nobody knows how he was injured or what he was wearing at the time, it's pretty difficult to judge what could have/should have happened.

Fact is he's injured and it's a blow because he's a champ player. Being an NRL player you put yourself at risk just being at training... if it wasn't his kidney, anything else could have gotten injured (or it could have happened DURING a game.) I found it tough enough taking hits from "normal" footy players as a kid let alone professionals who train full-time and know all the right tricks/techniques. Training's gotta be hard... we're lucky to only really have 1 potentially major injury coming into the season. Instead of criticizing the coaching staff/techniques for this I think they should be applauded. Hopefully SKD is back for the season!! WE NEED SKD!!!

If hes out for a lengthy period who the bloody hell do we replace him with?skd is a top class experienced center and its Mogas first season i was hoping he would be there to keep an bit of an eye on the kid The benefit of having a player of skds class next to him would have been invaluable in his first few matches.

Players dont suffer injuries like this to that part of the body during a game so how the hell could it happen at training. Unless it was just a freakish type of accident.
Its crap. They shouldn't be belting themselves around at training. Its no good mentally or physically!!!!

My guess would be BJ and Moga in the centres, maybe Carney. *shudder*

if Carney starts in round 1 we will have the slowest backline in the history of the NRL

                    Mini
                    BJ
                    Carney
                    Moga
                    Perrett
                    Anasta
                    Pearce

if you thought we had trouble scoring points last season, god help us this season, Moga is the only one in that backline with the talent/speed to create something on his own, BJ on his day very good on his feet just doesn't have the pace to run 40-50m to score an individual try.

Tagive, Henry, Alofa. No need for pessemism.. all could be wingers outside Bj or Moga!

I looked it up, a kidney "laceration" requires an open wound, as in down to the stomach. If he has suffered an injury like that, and it's not just Greek whispers, then he may well not play again. Because you're getting into the realms of nephritis or even Kidney failure.

And add to that, not a word on any news site or the radio. And one would presume that what is a most likely season ending injury to a marquee player would be taken note of.

I for one had NFI what a kidney laceration was until I used Google. Funnily enough I'm not a medical professional...

                          http://www.ehow.com/about_5534134_la...-symptoms.html

                          The Facts
There are several degrees of kidney lacerations: laceration of less than 1 cm that doesn't affect the internal tubules and ducts; laceration greater than 1 cm that doesn't affect the internal tubules and ducts; laceration extending to the inner kidney affecting the internal tubules and ducts; and complete laceration of the main renal artery. The degree of the injury determines the severity, symptoms and course of treatment. Any damage to your kidneys can affect their function. A kidney laceration is particularly dangerous because it may go undetected initially.
                          Cause of Kidney Laceration

                          Cause of Kidney Laceration
Any abdominal trauma can lead to kidney lacerations. Some causes are result of a fall, an automobile accident or a bike accident. Depending on the severity of the laceration, extensive bleeding occurs into the retro peritoneal space. This is often the case when the laceration is deep enough to affect the inner kidney. If you suffer a crack or a break of the 11th and 12th ribs, your ribs may have experienced trauma.

So... my guess is he fell over or copped a big whack to the abdomen because there's no claims he's broken his ribs.

Can't find any definite answers on recovery but some random called cha cha says:

It can take up to two months to fully recover from a major kidney laceration. ChaCha!
