Thoughts on him. Hopefully a good buy with Maloney. They play in the spine (I know it's cheesey) positions & have played together for a couple of years.

The whole Ryan Williamson fiasco has scarred you for life Melon. Seriously what is the point of developing our young players if we're just going to continue to buy players from other clubs. That's our strongest position for the future at the club at the moment. Wells and RTS are the cream of the crop when it comes to emerging fullbacks and we're just going to stop them from moving into first grade for the next 3 years or so. What sort of message does that send to any youngsters POS is trying to bring to the Roosters.
Also, Locke does not exactly have the best off-field history. After what happened with Carney I bet we regret letting Jacob Miller (the most promising under 20s half in the country) go. Haters gonna hate and it doesn't matter how insignificant Locke's first incident at the Roosters is, Rothfield would jump onto the kid and squeeze the life out of him so long as it hurts Brian Smith and the Roosters.

They may be better one day....they may like most in the under 20s - not make it. Like Williamson.
What kind of message does it send? Pull your heads in, work your arses off because in teh under 20s you havent proven anything big shots!.
Thats what.Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.

Back in the real world.
Roosters sign Locke
Wells opportunity to play first grade in the next two years next to 0
Other NRL clubs offers him double what he's on and a starting position.
Somehow I don't think his response is going to be "I need to pull my head in and work my arse of in the hope that Locke fails and I can take his starting spot in 2015. "
I hear what you're saying and in a perfect world reserve grade would be the next step up but due to some incompetent management from the NRL and NSWRL it's not and doesn't look like becoming so any time soon.

It seems these kids are too good to stick around if they are never given a chance. If we are going to stick with this youth policy then we can't chase marquee players instead of giving them their chances. Of course we are still considering their worth based on potential but it is hard to imagine they will all be duds. If they were of the same calibre as some of the backs that got a run in 2011 then I could agree with Melon but these kids seem a lot more talented.

Do you honestly believe any of what you said would happen Melon? The Jacob Miller situation is a perfect example that shows just how long you can keep promising young players for depth after they get interest from other clubs...about 2 weeks. Not 2 years. We would never be able to afford to keep one player let alone both until they turn 21 and 22 which is what you're suggesting. Plus, according to everywhere I've seen Locke is tied up til the end of 2013. So that means these guys get there shot in 2016. And I also highly doubt that Locke would sign just a two-year contract with a club in Australia at this stage of his career unless you pay massive overs. He re-signed with the Warriors for 2 years when he was barely making first grade. He's gonna want more security next time.
And I really wish people would stop comparing Williamson to players that have proved themselves in the 20s. He made a video of himself playing SG Ball. You would not see one bloke that he ran over in that video playing 20s in the last 3 years. He was woeful in Toyota Cup and anyone with half a brain would see that he was never going to make grade if he couldn't even prove a solid 20s player.

Even then, he would finish union training with the school and hop on the bus and high tail it back home to play for Valleys U/18's of a Friday night.
