regarding the leadership group, this is the first step in placing the lunatics in charge of the asylum and is a great way to create divisions in the team. Have a Captain and a Vice Captain and that is your leadership group.. It is just a wank to make a few players feel good about themselves and serves no value....

Originally posted by Big Arty View PostThat is quite funny, as it was the great Jack Gibson who returned from the USA in 1974, with a questionnaire about leadership, pretty sure he pinched it from Vince Lombardi, which all the players were asked to complete & based on the results, replaced the great Ron Coote with the great Artie Beetson as captain who then went on to become the greatest club captain our great club has ever had! But I do agree that Jack wouldn't have needed to announce a leadership group, but leadership groups are not a new thing, ever since Dally Messenger every half decent team has always had a leadership group, they were the blokes who the younger guys would follow into the trenches, Ron Coote didn't need a (C) beside his name to be a leader in one of the greatest sporting teams to ever exist!

I don't think it's a bad thing either given our young roster you would think there'd be a lot of tentativeness amongst the youngsters to 'step up' as they don't want to step on anyones toes....

Thanks Rooster 6, I can understand some of the older posters on here thinking it's a bit of a wank, but I don't really mind it, I don't think it will cause divisions within the playing group, as the playing group seem to be the ones who chose the 5 leaders, so they have ownership of it. Last years divisions, to my mind, were caused by Myles being in the leadership group & him letting the whole team down, by linking up with T.Carney on numerous benders etc.

Leadership Group?????
They would be the 5 oldest members in the squad.
What activities were these blokes tested in, Who has the earliest bed time? Who needs more sleep? Who won at Bingo???
Every player should take ownership of their own performance and be a leader.
Don't get me wrong i like the PLayers in this "totally useless group" but surely a Captain, Vice Captain and mentor for the young fellas in Fitzy is all that is needed.

edit.. found the article and here is an extract. Definitely not chosen by the players.
We recently went through a detailed process to determine the Leadership Group for the 2012 season.
The selection process was conducted in stages, firstly with all players requested to identify six key "Behaviours of a Leader".
Once the six key leaderships behaviours were identified each team mate was audited based on the core behaviours and five players demonstrated "stand-out" results in the audit.
These five players now form the 2012 Leadership Group:
Braith Anasta
Mitchell Aubusson
Martin Kennedy
Anthony Minichiello
