If he “arm grabs” in a tackle it’s purely because he’s been beaten for pace by a split second. He made a couple of beautiful tackles after that first miss where he shut him down really well. And even a brilliant inside shoulder hit (can’t recall who it was on).

No doubt he’ll work on his reaction and footwork in defence this week but there is nothing wrong with his technique in contact in my opinion.
Yes he can tackle but last night we did see a few arm grabs. Nobody can deny that.

Cooper is arguably the best defensive halfback I've ever seen. A brilliant tackler, talker and decision maker.

      He made Joey's job easier.

But with Flanagan there instead I think they just need time to work out their combination in D. I'm no expert but that half-centre wedge would be close to the hardest to defend on the field.

They'll adapt for when it matters.
I agree with what you have said. I would also add that Joey has had a great defender in Aubo on the right edge as well. I’m not saying that Angus isn’t a good defender it’s just an added combination with him and Flanno that Joey has to adjust to. Both times he missed Jenko I thought he timing was a bit off. I think with time he will come good. Last night will have been a wake up call for Joey. Also, let’s not sell Jenko short. He’s as good as ever and any opposing centre would have had a tough time against him last night.

Manu is Ok, Jennings was on fire and would have beaten just about anybody, Manu tried to get him early and missed, no big deal.

Uncharacteristic mistakes in defence in a one to one like Joey on Jenko comes down to a slip in concentration and focus usually. Thats where you get the 'defence is attutude' theory. Unless its sheer fatigue which I dont think that was.

Underestimated Jenkos quickness too...hes done that to many a good centre in his career. Joey will learn from it.

Joseph will have to sit through the video session and relive the misses. The Eels targeted him and Flanagan who I thought defended well and it didn’t sap his attack too much either.
              ..it’ll be interesting to see

C’mon Mr Confidence. You’re sounding like a Parra fan there.

didn't someone pre game say jenko was past it ? I still love him , never wanted him to leave, man what a hit that was, losing jimmy, rts and jenko in 1 year, with disastrous consequences

I’d say that one thing I noticed, particularly in last nights game and the souffs game is that Manu rushes out of the line when he probably doesn’t need to

I think a bit of that was due to Parra having us stretched defensively with their offloads

I will offer a different perspective. Flanagan is not as good a defender as what people think he is. Both Eels tries targeted Flanagan with forwards to create space for Jennings on Flanagan's outside. Note that we compress our defense on Flanagan's inside which creates space on his outside.

The third pic shows Flanagan being swatted away by Jennings in a front-on tackle before Sivo scored.
