the point youre missing though fred which i am trying to make is that no matter how 'bad' the bloke is, it is indisputable that he is in the top 6 odd 5/8s in the comp. that even accounts for your rating of campese and co as better than him so as far as im concerned i cant see a problem. the reality is that the guys ahead of him we have no chance of getting (carney, marshall, foran in particular and even soward, campese will be a 1 club man etc). fact is that even if he is the sam obst of the current era, he is playing in a league of craig kimmorleys

i provided a list of 5/8s in the comp which had roughly 6 who were worse than braith (none of those have been disputed as yet), i then provided a further list of players roughly on par with/sometimes better/sometimes worse/a bit inexperienced/young and then an additional list which detailed those better than him (carney and marshall) which was also indisputed. Now explain to me how i am overrating anasta? him being in the bottom 3 has been thrown around in this thread which my yet to be disputed list of 7 would overcome so basically he sits somewhere in the middle but is not in the top say 3 or 4 so he sits between 8 and 4 at any given time contingent on form. What this would suggest is that unless you can get 1 of the top 3 or 4 (foran, marshall, carney); you probably dont have much to be complaining about. marshall will never come to us, we just sacked carney and foran is a big maybe but given his history with o'sullivan and his willingness to play under hasler, i find it unlikely.

what part of that has me 'overrating anasta', not making sense etc. Yes it is opinion but it has not been disputed based on any relevant grounds so as far as im concerned they are basically facts. facts do not = stats nor do they equal consensus but until someone can establish an argument that at least erodes my list of 7 worse 5/8, believes that there are more players that deserve to be viewed as on par with carney and marshall and to a lesser extent foran, and then dispute that anasta sits somewhere in the middle based on form, you are all clearly wrong.

No one would be 'right or wrong' because it is just personal opinion but it may be intersting to see what everyone thinks and where they see Anasta and Mortimer currently sitting amongst them all.

this may not be directed at me in particular but thats not what my argument revolves around. To make it simple and mathematical:

for anasta to = shit you must prove 2 things:
1) that there are few/no worse 5/8s than him in the comp
2) that those better than him (not on par with but better than him) can be brought across as replacements.

At the moment i have proven that in answer to 1) there are at least 6 or 7 clear worse 5/8s in the comp and 3 or 4 to be generous better 5/8s so based on that he is not the worst/among the worst but sits somewhere in the middle. In answer to 2), of those that are better than him, foran is the only one we might be able to get but for reasons outlined above im not sure that will happen but of course i would like to see us get him/find a replacement for braith in the next couple of years because above all else he is starting to get on a bit.

based on this there can be a right and wrong answer imo. unless you can meet the criteria/devise a new way of looking at it that would overcome my argument, you are wrong. It will become a dispute of opinion once you accept the parameters (ie 2 points to be proven) and then within that propose for e.g that thompson or burns is better than anasta making him slide further down the list.

finally this point about everyone having an opinion is also getting a bit misconstrued atm. yes everyone is entitled to an opinion but there is a difference between having an opinion and being ignorant. i could be of the opinion that the earth is flat. i have every right to hold that opinion but that doesnt mean that im not wrong. when fred and co come on here and say that anasta is in the bottom 3 5/8s in the comp etc etc and i propose a simple argument and model that not only disproves this but shows that we cant really do much better anyway they have every right to do so. but as far as im concerned, until they can disprove my argument they are wrong.
