I mean even JFC (who I quite like and could have a beer with) is more concerned by the absurd idea of Trojan horses than of the fact our favourite son has been abused racially and violently. The forces that aim to squash racism are more threatening than the forces perpetrating the racism.

The way some wriggle and contort to paint an alternate view would be admirable we’re it not so depressing.
Even on a thread about a guy who made insinuations about murdering Latrell and using his race as an insult, the main thrust from the usual suspects has been pc gone mad.
ROC181 - how about you take up Mon1’s challenge and watch the documentary, then come back here and debate the points in an intelligent and thoughtful way?
Even without watching that loaded doco, I am 100% sure that Goodes would have been the victim of racial insults, much like I was insulted for being a wog, or a disabled person or anyone who comes across bullies who try to spot a weakness to twist onto it...hey much like you're doing S Grub! You're getting on your keyboard high horse with that Skeez and some person who has been here for 3 threads and is spruking a TV show...Trying to bully me because I don't believe in that agenda driven doco?
My point to this Goodes affair, and I know I am wasting my time in this! Firstly I will say that I had admired Goodes before all of this. I recall one night around 2012 at a trendy club in the ES, he came right past me and I was in some awe because I had heard him speak before and I knew he was a very talented sportsman.... But what changed my opinion of him is this little victim attitude that he came out with in trying to equate booing and racism. And this doco is trying to convey that narrative which is totally wrong!!!A ll Swan fans cheered for him while all other fans would boo him...well NOT all because NOT all fans boo but those that boo do it with the intention of putting the players off their game...All fans in ALL sports do it. A racist person would not be wasting their time with a little scream of booing. They would use more callous insults to players like Goodes or any other....That is NOT good IMO and anyone else of sound mind in this place.
Now! I don't boo anyone at the ground or ever because that is so lame and I don't insult anyone by picking out their weaknesses. It isn't my thing so stop with your little bully tactics pal!
Otherwise try and mean what you say " Take it from me: dont waste your time outlining your thoughts in a cogent and rational manner."
This thread is about Latrell's racist abuse NOT about other posters not in line with your believes about another issue!

ROC - so to summarise: You were teased for being a "wog" when you were young and you turned out fine.
Well that puts 200 years of post-colonial group-think to bed.Last edited by Salvatori Grubber; 08-13-2019, 09:41 AM.Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

Loathe as I am to quote him ('cause I'm not a fan of his), but Greenberg put it well:
"Racism must be called out in all its forms because the standard you walk past is the standard you accept. I commend Latrell for doing just that,'' Greenberg said.
The current global climate has this occurring all across the West (and Eastern Europe) where the calibration is set waaaaaaaaay off.
In fact it's just this tactic that the Trumps, Johnsons, Netanyahus, Orbans, Erdogans, et al are using to create the current global climate. Scary thing is that right now the Markets are eerily similar to what they were like in the 20's. Socially too. And we all know what came 20 years later.
I'm sad for my kids...Last edited by Salvatori Grubber; 08-13-2019, 09:45 AM.Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

I'll repeat what I said about my friend because I think it emphasises the sheer volume of hate mail that she received, even before she was famous. As a uni student she had to close her FB (by passing it over to a talent manager) and setup a pseudonym due to the sheer volume of people sending through stuff like:
- You are Asian, not indigenous
- I am going to rape you
- I am going to murder you
- Your culture is shyte
- Nobody likes your plays, they only watch because you're indigenous
Having known her personally, there's so much personal stuff behind the scenes that nobody knows. Hate to say it but anybody who reckons it's all about 1 or 2 watershed moments has NFI what indigenous Australians cop on a daily basis (and deal with... usually without complaining).
The standard you ignore is the standard you accept. I'm a lawyer but put a decent amount of unpaid work into furthering diversity within my current organisation. Those who think this kinda stuff may wish to reflect on Latrell's contract negotiations. Anybody can offer anybody more money. However, when you reach a certain level of professional accomplishment, you're not just working for the place that pays the best... you're looking for the best culture.
We should be proud that even after having GI in his ear about Souffs, Latrell's keen to stay. Our current culture promotes diversity and also pushes everybody to do their best for each other. It's not a coincidence that people want to play for us. This kinda culture takes a LOT of work to build/maintain.
Personally, I wouldn't wanna go back to the days of Sticky's culture where there's no building blocks and they get all excited because they've slipped into the top 8 by exploiting a new interpretation of the strip rule. Good on Sticky if (as he said) he reckons his team has now shown they can beat any team in a GF and the result came down to 50:50 ref decisions (to me this is sort of a contradiction). I know which team/culture I prefer to be backing.Last edited by ism22; 08-13-2019, 10:16 AM.

Further update: SMH article
Latrell's father in tears over abuse as Roosters star heads home
Latrell Mitchell's father broke down in tears when he saw the shocking racial abuse directed at his son on social media, which the NRL Integrity Unit are now investigating.
Mitchell posted the shocking comment on Facebook late Sunday, which also included claims from the offender that "I would laugh my guts up'' if the Sydney Roosters centre broke his neck.
It capped a shocking weekend for NRL players being trolled that included Wests Tigers winger Paul Momirovski being abused for missing a conversion attempt on full-time and the wife of North Queensland Cowboys enforcer Josh McGuire revealing her husband had received death threats following his latest suspension.
NRL boss Todd Greenberg was so upset with the racist comments directed at Mitchell that he slammed them as ''disgusting and [they] have no place in our game''. The NRL Integrity Unit are set to ban the coward behind the Mitchell post from all future games.
"Racism must be called out in all its forms because the standard you walk past is the standard you accept. I commend Latrell for doing just that,'' Greenberg said.
Latrell joined his father, Matt, at home in Taree on Monday as the Roosters players were given several days off by coach Trent Robinson and planned to do some cultural work with the local indigenous elders.
Latrell revealed earlier this year how his father would often pull him out of junior games when opposition parents hurled racial abuse.
"When my wife showed me the comments on Sunday night I got emotional about it,'' Matt told the Herald.
"I was probably more angry than anything.
"That's such an old-school mentality. Australia is multicultural now. There's no need for it.''
Whether NRL players should call out the ''keyboard warriors'' or simply ignore them appeared to split the NRL community.
Manly's Joel Thompson likened the Mitchell post to ''hate speech'', and the recent Adam Goodes documentary served as a sad reminder of how much racism still existed in the wider community.
"You bring attention to it for the right reasons and show what it does to players,'' Thompson said.
"I hope the person that put his name to it, his employer will really come down hard on him. I hope calling people out like that will make people accountable.
"I was just fuming. It fired me up seeing some stuff like that.''
Panthers and NSW No.6 James Maloney has been around the top flight more than a decade and was lucky to be spared the modern-day obsession with mobile phones and social media and always had simple advice for the next generation.
"If it's a problem, turn it off; there's no other way to get away from it,'' Maloney said.
"Nothing good has ever come from biting back. It gives the faceless people what they want.
"It's a whole new age. Young people are always on their phones and there are blokes who just can't put them down.
"I've said to a lot of young guys coming through to value the opinion of people that matter. Everyone has an opinion. It doesn't matter how well you play, there will be people who don't rate you and don't think you're any good. But do you care? Who cares if 'Joe Blow' thinks you're not a good footy player.
"Unfortunately, there are some horrible people out there. If you walked down the street, they'd never tell you to your face to 'go neck yourself'. There are grubs out there who feel the need to do it.''
Tigers forward Ryan Matterson confirmed that Momirovski was fine with the weekend abuse, and said ''we're only human''.
"There's a reason I'm here and they're there, that's the way I see it,'' Matterson said in response to the haters.
Greenberg said on Monday: "What I love about rugby league is the diverse cultures and backgrounds it brings together.
"The heritage of our players is what makes our game so special.
"Incidents like this show why our school programs like In League In Harmony and Indigenous rounds are so important to educate the next generation about inclusion.
"There is no place for any sort of abuse on social media towards our players or their families.''

You were the first comment politicising it, albeit satirically.
Yes I do arc up against PC and will continue to do so. As soon as an Ism or Phobic is added to a term eg racism, islamaphobic or homophobic the debate is suddenly shut down and the boxers scurry back to their corner, fight over. I think thats where free speech ends.
And yes I think you are a good cat too although our ideologies on what is fair and just differ sometimes.

I always approach it this way - there's a Ruckman for Collingwood called Mason Cox. He's 6 ft 11 and I've regularly called him a gorilla. That's not racist because he's white. But if I say that to a player of colour, it's racist. Not because I mean it to be but because of the historical connotations of people of colour being classed as subnormal in the past.
I understand that. I abhor what happened to Latrell Mitchell and I hope when they find the idiots who did it that they are publicly named and shamed.

But too many alt-righters focus on that minor injustice at the expense of the far more damaging issue that the lazy use of words was seeking to address in the first place. And I think it's happened on this thread again.
