I thought the young centre didn’t get dominated once, which should give him confidence.

Agreed (other than the odd aspergers comment). Decent result in my books. Bears plus Crichton and Collins gave Manly a run for their money... if I were a Manly fan, I'd be expecting a loooong season (and yeah, Walker won't be back).Originally posted by mattyh View Postif the guy has aspergers [WTF? That's such a random comment and it's not even clear who you are talking about] then bravo for him giving it a go ....ballsy, disappointing results , but who the hell cares ? it is a trial where we played nobody from last years grand final , i doubt robbo is to worriedLast edited by ism22; 03-03-2019, 09:51 AM.

Hard gig when you try to make a meaningless game exciting. Eckford would have done better not to try.Originally posted by bananabrah View PostThe commentator was a guy, Ryan Eckford. He said his name at the end of the call. Obviously I am a sucker for punishment watching that far!
He states in his bio that he has Aspergers and loves sports. He's also been entering in commentating competitions on FoxSports. Perhaps he won the opportunity to commentate this trial?
I'm all for giving someone a chance, and if it's just a trail then I can understand, but I really hope the equal opportunity gang doesn't ensure I have to hear from this bloke again, because he's damn hard to listen to!
On the plus side, there was something old fashioned about his call, like he was on the sideline, seated at a table with a mic, amongst the mud and the smell of Deep Heat. The voice might take a bit of getting used to, but the concentration of what was going on in the game, rather than an irrelevant comedy routine was good,.

I'll admit I couldn't listen for very long but good on him for having a go and also being given a chance to have a go. Even if he's not successful at live commentary, I hope he achieves his dream of becoming a sports journalist whatever path he chooses. If Rothfield (amongst others) can get a job then I'm sure this chap can.

"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

I agree - I lasted 5 minutes and couldn't take any more. Gave it a second attempt and lasted about 3 minutes. Didn't realise he had Aspergers - good on NRL.com for giving him the opportunity. Mind you, still doesn't make him bearable to listen to - maybe written journalism is where his talent lies ...Originally posted by 007 View PostI'll admit I couldn't listen for very long but good on him for having a go and also being given a chance to have a go. Not sure what was worse - listening to the Roosters game commentary or Wazza and Co waxing lyrical and talking up the Filthy Vermin as they won their annual trophy - the Charity Shield.
But at least there was a game of footy to watch - and the end to the off-season is in sight. I know when the season is near when NRL 360 returns, as it does tonight.Supporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.
