Too much emphasis on halfback. Pearce will never be a Thurston or Cronk but then again will never command as much money either. That frees us up to splash out on a Carney/Maloney/Keary and giving us one of the best halves pairings in the comp. The only team with a better pairing is Cowboys and that only panned out because Morgan was paid peanuts and has turned out to be an excellent half.

Note our performance when Pearce paired up with a running 5/8th:
        Carney - Grand Final
        Maloney - Premiership
        Keary - Prelim final

Those looking to blame Pearce last night have nfi. Our season ended with stupid errors and losses of SKD and Tupes. Note that Matterson's lack of speed cost us two tries last night including the match-winning Feldt try.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't he on 900k a season, if so thats upper echelon money.

            I totally agree with you!
Unfortunately our coach loves him too much to move him along..

Yes and Politis loves Jake too much. Therein is a double eedged problem. I hope in Tedesco time he will get to play with a different half and hooker sooner rather than later.

Neither of us know for certain what he is on. It would be commonsense that he is earning less than a Thurston or Cronk. Also take into account the $300k long service discount now only shared by Pearce/Friend/Maubs.

Out of Interest, which halfback would you buy? IMO buying Cronk at a premium would be insanity, and there are no other decent halfbacks available without chewing up a big chunk of our salary cap. Even Ash Taylor would be commanding a premium. Our only option would be to invest in young promising halfbacks and be prepared to shift Pearce to hooker (or bench ala Watson) during a transition period. I don't see that happening until at least 2020.

O'Sullivan's son is the way to go.

He is sharp, young and a goal kicker. Put Pearce to pasture

Before Pearce's antics last year, a swap of Brooks for Pearce was on the cards.

What a ****en bunch of whiners.

Ok it had nothing to do with our halfback. It had a fair bit to do with our kicking game

Pearce ain't ever gonna be a leader or player to pull a rabbit out of a hat when the chips are down.
He is a competent first grade halfback.

                            Nothing more.

To be honest with you I have no idea at the moment, Cronk is at the end of it and would be a bad return on investment imo, I would be going as hard as I can in getting Cleary or Taylor in failing that hang on to Pearce for the moment which is more than likely whats going to happen due to a lack of options out there really and wait and see how Niko, Cornish,Sullivan and Lam work out. I know I am repeating the concensus out there but there are so bloody few options atm. We need more stability in the halves and Hooker unfortunately our's go AWOL all too often.

We will be stuck with Pearce for years to come so we need to get used to it.
