Pearce has never recovered form Origin or his repeat stupidities.
I've said it before, ad nauseum. He would make a very dependable center or lock. He can tackle, run and pass but his attacking kicking game is non-existent.
Pearce seems to get "stage fright" whether it be a big state of origin game or a finals game like last Saturday. He's been lucky enough over the past few seasons to get away with a so-called decent season performance from having the likes of James Maloney doing majority of the heavy lifting/ Keary this season. I just don't get what goes thru his head during the game...lacks creativity, his 5th play the ball options are just high kicks (shit kicks mind you) and his inability to close out a game under pressure. This isn't a young 20yr old coming thru the ranks...the bloke is a seasoned half-back. Perhaps an option would be to get rid of Jake Friend since he's lacking the #9 factor in comparison to some hookers (Smith, Granville) push Pearce into Hooker and the Chooks go to market for a new #7 or promote someone like Cornish to top grade.
Friendy is a solid player especially in defence but in attack offers very little (just my opinion)
It would be interesting to see how Cornish would go if he had a decent run at half with our forward pack.
And if Ash Taylor was available and wanted to play here.......................................I'd be happy to swap Pearce and Friend for him.

Taylor at #7 and Cornish at #9 ? (not bad) Radley could be the bench Utility (maybe) ?
Pearce will be going nowhere< not until young Lam or Osullivan come through, If we had to get someone on the cheap until the kids are ready i would get
Boas, the Hunters half, when his team dropped the ball countless times, he was there to pick them up, his kicking game kept PNG in the game his nice grubber got them the win in the last minute and he is a very good goal kicker.
Pearce to 9 he would be deadly at dummy half, i have seen others mention this, he would run more than Jake, distribute quicker than Jake and has a better kicking game than Jake.
Jake to backrow, lets face it he is just a tackling machine these days, he pulls out a nice pass every now and then, he stifles the attack at times, he could be an 80 min backrower in a Hindmarsh role.
Of course this will not happen, but i can dream
Bringer of Rain, Embrace the Hate, Freedom for All

How many times have we waited for juniors to step up and have decided that it's best to get the best, like Tedesco? When Politis finally realises that it will be difficult to win a GF with Pearce at 7, he will be aiming for the best in the market and Jnr will either be asked to adapt in a different position or go to another club. It's how it's done.
Compare the kicking game's of Morgan & Pearce last night.
Morgan put thought into his kicks & generally took the right option.
Pearce just put boot to ball because it was the last.
Pearce has no Plan B.
In addition look at Morgan's kicks, they put Gordon under massive pressure to catch the ball. His bombs were pinpoint, they were towering, spiraling and extremely hard to catch. Compare to Pearce's bombs, not just on Saturday night but pretty much all his career. They are end over end and whilst relatively accurate, they are easy to catch.
Consider Morgan has only really had to step up and provide a kicking game this season and he can execute these bombs, compared to Pearce who has been the primary kicker for the Roosters for a decade but obviously doesn't have the ability to execute this kind of kick. Obviously if he could, he would but he clearly doesn't have confidence in his ability to execute this kind of bomb. For a professional NRL player whose strength is supposedly his kicking, this is completely unacceptable. Remember the Tigers match late this season, Tui Lolohea put Gordon under all sorts of pressure with his spiral bombs into the wind. Compared to Pearce who in windy conditions chose to kick chip bombs and grubbers. It was tragic comparing the talent of the 2.
I don't think Pearce played too badly on Saturday night, he pretty much played the way he does every week. What he doesn't have is the ability to go up a gear and impose himself on a game. He has no running game whatsoever, couldn't break through a wet paper bag, a predictable kicking game and little ability to win repeat sets (not that he had much chance in the prelim final). I keep reading about how his ability to create space is the reason for Keary making breaks. This is partially true but you can only really give Pearce about 20% of the credit here. The bulk has to go to Keary for running the line and having the acceleration to break through the defensive line and then frequently finding a support runner with a pin point pass or sometimes kick. I don't even want to compare Pearce to Morgan, they pretty much play a different sport, let alone game. Given Pearce has been our highest paid player (will change next year), I think he has been a terrible investment.

yep Pearce can't seem to add new skills to his game like Morgan has been able to do.
I'm like you in I respect the effort Pearce puts in but that leads to the problem of him " reeking of effort", speeding his game up when he should be slowing down, premeditating plays instead of playing eyes up etc. This leads to lack of confidence in himself, which leads to him "checking out" in big monents in the biggest games.
What depresses me is the realisation that his game has more than likely peaked, and we're seen the best he's got.
And that we are stuck with him.
Uncle Nick should give SBW $2 mill in a brown paper bag to come back and carry Pearce over the line again.

agreed he always looks rushed , he is a solid first grader he just lacks a little class . He does copp more than he deserves though. But it comes with the territory of being a elite level halfback that is expected to perform
Roosters should sign albert kelly as a back up hooker half. If you could settle him offield he could be anything. Still young, maybe hes had to many chances i dont know.
