    3rd & 4th deserve it more that what 5th & 6th do.
    I would have
    1st play 8th at home
    2nd play 7th at home
    3rd plays 6th at home
    4th plays 5th at home
That system makes far more sense for teams finishing 1, 2, 7 and 8 but it screws over 3 and 4 and unfairly rewards 5 and 6. Technically under that system, 3rd can get knocked out in the first week of the finals, and still have to play the next week even if they win. Also, 5th or 6th could lose by 50 first week of the finals and still be there the next week playing (see Cowboys in 05 and Warriors in 11). Teams finishing 5th and 6th don't deserve that chance.

I can only remember going to Allianz in week 3 when we have won in week 1 of the finals. Maybe that's just been pure luck so far, but hopefully it continues this year. I know we played at ANZ in 2014 but we had lost in week 1 and it was against the Vermin so I thought that gave them home ground advantage as they had won in week 1.

        • In 2013 we got a prelim at Allianz but in that case there was 2 prelims in Sydney, the other being Souths v Manly at ANZ.

That was in 2004 against the Cowboys I recall. But it was a different system back then with all PF's in Sydney with a Saturday night at SFS (Allianz) and Sunday afternoon at Homebush.

However, with Novice Chook's post, the way I read it doesn't necessarily gives us Allianz.

It will be either Allianz or Homebush and if Parra get over the winner of the Sharks v Cowboys then Homebush will be the odds on favourite to be the venue as I think around 50-60k will turn up.

Yes, and that was because both us and the Vermin won in week 1 and so as far as I'm aware had the choice of venue in week 3, we chose Allianz and they chose ANZ.

I would be extremely pissed off if the Roosters as the host and highest ranking team, had to play Parra at ANZ in week 3, as it gives them home ground advantage which they don't deserve. We should have the option to play at Allianz until the GF and I always thought that was how it worked - the highest ranking Syd team had the choice between Allianz and ANZ, no matter who they played.

No, once again, you don't get to choose the venue for the prelim. We didn't get to choose in 2013 and we won't get to choose this year either.

But it doesn't matter. We don't need home ground advantage to beat anyone.

Both prelims were in Sydney, and for some reason panthers played at sfs, and we played at Homebush.

back then didnt they say if you were on one side of the draw it would be at aussie stadium and the other side would be at telstra stadium the year before we finished 2nd and played the prelim at aussie

I don't agree that home advantage doesn't matter. You put that game last night in Bris and I suspect the result would have been totally different. We are unbeaten at Allianz since round 4 this year and I reckon that is a huge advantage, and one we should be able to take advantage of in week 3 if we are the 'host'.

                            • I thought it was Allianz for week 3. That we were guaranteed minimum two home games win or lose G1.
Frankly, a full Allianz is far better than ANZ anyway, and since they can't even fill allianz tonight with two sets of sydney fans, that should be the end of that ANZ idea.

                              • playing it at ANZ is completely stupid. Of course the NRL will opt to play the game there
