  • From the two angles I have seen one looks bad and one looks like a clean hit.
From behind the tackler it looks like first contact of the shoulder was below the head but then slides up with significant contact to the head.
From behind the ball carrier it looks like a clean hit with no head contact.
It was mentioned in commentary that he could have been knocked out by head contact with the ground.

      • A penalty, a try, AND a potential 3 to 5 weeks for Tetevano?! NRL are having a laugh.

I really hope we push for a full dismissal and not just a downgrade. Unless there is an angle I haven't seen on my 4K TV there isn't evidence to penalise him let alone suspend him.
Spot on R6 I think that's how it will play out.

          Just wrong.

I still believe that the jolting force of the tackle has pretty much knocked him out. That does not mean he was hit in the head. His head hitting the ground after the tackle is what has finished him off imo.

                  I am not so sure.

If they can show it's not reckless then I think it can disappear altogether.

                      1. The max he will get is 3 weeks for a reckless high tackle, not 6.
                      2. There was either high contact or there wasn't... if they prove there was (I don't think they can) then they need to prove that it was reckless (i.e. done with a blatant disregard for the safety of the other player).

IMO it wasn't high or reckless. Based on te 3 pics below (which I know are tiny because this forum s*x with pic uploads), I don't think it was either. The only way they'll get high contact is if they look at the 3rd (which is after the initial contact) and saw his forearm hit the guy's head.

BUT... it didn't. Initial contact was pec on the man's pec with arms wrapped around the back, wrestling him down. This is important because it shows it wasn't reckless. He made a legitimate attempt to tackle the guy and it was clean because he had his arms around the guy's back.

My worry again is that 3rd shot. Forearm's clearly close to his chin after the tackle as the guy is falling. However, this isn't the initial contact. He didn't run in with his forearm first and bump him in the chin with a forearm (which probably would be a grade 3 reckless). He's bumped in so hard that he's given the guy whiplash and he's fallen backwards. IMO he's then been surprised by the impact, the attacker's body has slipped to a wonky angle and Tetevano's tried his hardest to cushion the fall by grabbing his shirt and pulling it up (at which point the chin glides past his forearm... no blunt contact between the two).

He even ducks down, making the tackle as low as possible! There's nothing high about the initial contact (which is their claim... forearm to the chin has knocked him out). No way!!!

IMO it's a legit tackle where he's gone in with a solid pec hit, wrapped his arms around the back and thumped him to the ground. Like it or not, that's what the goal of a tackle is and you used to be able to do the exact same thing using the butt of your shoulderblade. Some big guys have pecs as hard as a shoulderblade when tensed and Tetevano's one of those. If they trivialise it and over-analyse the last photo then I think the worst he'll get is unintended high contact... fine only offence and he plays out the finals without a penalty.

If Tetevano's is a grade 3 high tackle then the rulebook needs to be torn up.

                        • The weapon will get off.Just a great front on ball and all tackle for mine. Its a contact sport people get hurt in tackles, nobody likes to see a player get hurt but that's the way it happens sometimes. On a side note my young mate Mitch who i nearly convinced to have a run with the roosters this year ,he was in full training for a few months but decided to remain in retirement and sell real estate instead, told me that he shared a house with Zane when they were at the knights and reckons Zane hits as hard as anyone in the game reckons he wouldn't be running at him unless he had to lol.

                          • The way the commentators carried on was always going to result in a suspension. Both carried on how he should be sent off and Vossy has been relentless about it since on social media. Talk about trial by media.
Anything Blocker says should be dismissed outright. Too many hits the head for this guy to commentate today. Dumbest commentator ever.
Vossy can't stand us and finds something every game to complain about us. I don't rate him in the top 3 commentators. Absolute egomaniac these days.

this might be the route our defense goes down, beat the charge on a technicality, if they can prove the hit was "careless" and not "reckless" they can get the charge thrown out.

given the media hysteria and the fact Tetevano isn't a star name I highly doubt we are going to be successful at the judiciary.
