Not sure if he has derailed it, by most reports, he was out with the team, derailing it would be if he is covering it for somebody else in the team, since he continues to say he doesn't use the stuff, but he doesn't explain why he had it on him.

Yeah you are right. At least he is not a spine player or JWH who we would miss severely. Still he has provided the media with their annual Roosters scandal. I like the look of Latrell and Manu in the centres. I wasn't convinced by Manu but I think he has looked pretty sharp in first grade recently. Latrell would be one of the first guys I would pick every week. I hope he kills it for the Indigenous round.

they weren't signed up yet, they withdrew from the deal after the weekend according to fox

He's a grown man not a child, and that one mistake (That we know of ) was possession of a narcotic, which is a criminal offence and a fairly serious one in my opinion which cost the club some very bad publicity, loss of image and the loss of a sponsor. I would also assume that with this possession charge he would probably be in breach of contract as they usually have clauses written in for such events.
Time to move him on.

Storm player will be back playing in two weeks...10 working days...two playing days. To use the drug he had to possess it.
Doesn't seem anywhere serious in NRL these days.

Storm doesn't seem too concerned about image and bad publicity...only its march to the finals.

IMO...possession of a 'dime bag' of cocaine, a couple of joints of marijuana etc, should not be a criminal offence.
And I'm anti-drugs.

They sponsored the Sharks last season, their name on the back of the jerseys.
When they signed on as sponsors...Cronulla was not exactly clean of drug scandals and other distasteful scandals.
Then there was Barba.

And they pulled their sponsorship of us before we had a chance to do anything about SKD.

I feel for him because he's copped it a lot harder than Proctor and Bromwich. It was reported yesterday that (essentially) the cops in Sydney did a blitz that week because the ABC's doing a Channel 9-style show where they follow cops around (as they arrest high profile cocaine users at the nightclubs where we know it all happens).

IMO usage was probably so darn obvious that a junior cop was like 'loool yeah if you want a good story then send a coupla dogs through Ivy on a Friday/Saturday night... position one near the door and one near the toilet and you're gonna see a heap of b-grade celebs shuffling towards the dunnies for sure... it'll be hillarious!!!'

What came out in SKD's other case was claims that he didn't do cocaine 'anymore' (from his text messages). I feel for him because this has gotta be tough BUT clearly there's a simple way in which to avoid getting busted with drugs.

As a semi-pro athlete I didn't even drink!!! Like we hear about the hard work of the pros, but I trained 3 times a day from the age of 10, micro-managed my diet and NEVER drank or smoked because I cared about my body soooo much!! I competed in national comps on a weekly basis (my club & sponsor paid for basically my plane fares, shoes and gea... also I had a full uni scholarship but that's it). Despite this (and the fact that I was essentially at the same 'level' as NRL players in that I competed in the national comp) I was able to show more respect for my body than people making more than I now make as a lawyer. It's really disappointing and discouraging to see how people can make it while seemingly coming in with a more relaxed attitude. I'm sorry but I do take it a bit personally as somebody who tried really hard with far less support structures (coach training me for free...etc coz he believed in me) and never made much cash (other than the odd bit of prize money). IMO well BEFORE clubs start bankrolling you, you shouldn't be in a position where you're juggling drugs and sport. I feel like that's a feature of being REALLY elite... that you wouldn't touch drugs, or associate with groups who do them.

Yeah i've gotta say that my initial reaction to Bromwich and Proctor (one of whom put a guy in a wheelchair) had rolled up banknotes then used them to snort coke was 'they are such lame wannabe gangsters'. I woulda thought they'd show a little more respect for what they've got...

It's a consideration when choosing sports for my kids. Do I want them to end up like this?
