Pretty simple, parra were willing to offer a contract for more $$$ then Roosters. Roosters recruitment had other ideas. That's life, Copley is good value in context of value within a 25 man roster.

I have no idea about what happens behind the scene at the Roosters but it's obvious Jennings is going to be moved on even though SKD has a major court case coming up. It does not make sense to someone like me.

Simple he is on the nose at the club and more importantly with Robbo, talk has been said on his drinking and attitude. The club has a strict policy and won't put up with sh**. Especially when they are paying top $$$. Penrith are the same and I am sure his brothers there have been told any crap and you're gone. Gould will not have Jennings back. Don't be surprised if Parra get his brothers over there as well

I still don't understand what SKD's court appearance has to do with Jennings situation.

Are the nrl operating above the law?
Does our club have an agenda?
              Are we all stir crazy??????????

Since joining, Jennings has had 2 criminal convinctions (if not more). Driving recklessly without license (which was taken away due to a DUI conviction) and being aggressive towards the police.

Not trying to downplay DV, but IMO it sounds like SKD (a 1 club player who also helped us win that premiership by playing with a broken jaw and scoring a try) has had a messy break-up, nobody was seriously hurt and they should just part ways, forgetting the relationship ever happened. Problem is the political climate... DUI, aggression towards cops and reckless driving aren't the current flavour of the month. Not trying to downplay DV, but it's hard to see Rosie Batty and friends letting SKD get away with no conviction, and keep playing footy. That said, the court's independent, and knows a lot more than us... so I trust the court to make the right decision.

So the deal is done...................was probably done quite some time ago.
                    Speculation will be rife.

I think it is a really good move from the roosters.
Whenever the roosters are bold in their decision making....good things happen.
We need to get some youth into the squad.
                    Hastings is a gun.

Pete O Sullivan has produced so many good young players...someone in the centres will pop up
                    barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

If the conjectured figures are correct (salaries and subsidies to Parramatta and from Brisbane) we end up clearing about $250-300K in salary cap space through this transaction and still getting a quality centre.

This is a reconstruction year for the Roosters. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost two or three other older players this year as we set ourselves up for another three years of high performance.

                      Renewal is painful, but good.

I think you are right. I heard on the weekend from another Roosters member that we are set to lose Moa at the end of 2016 as well. I am not too concerned with losing Moa though as Napa has come along nicely and Kane Evans will step up to fill that position off the bench.

In addition, losing Moa frees up some more cap space. It just looks like the Roosters are trying to clear the decks and the cap space for a couple of major signings in 2017 plus some key re-signings.

The Sydney Roosters have today agreed to release centre Michael Jennings from the final year of his playing contract to allow him the opportunity to secure his long-term future at another NRL club.
Roosters Chief Operating Officer Football, Brian Canavan, said: “It is with reluctance that we have granted this request for Michael’s immediate release. However, we do so with the view that it is in his best interests to secure his long-term future.”
Jennings, who made his Club debut in the opening round of the 2013 season – playing 71 first grade games for the Roosters – said: “While I’m sad to be leaving, I know it’s the right call for my long-term future and I’m excited about that.
“I’m a better person for my time at the Roosters. From Robbo and all the staff and players, I’ve been part of a great family at the Club. I’ve made some lifelong friends over the last three years and the Roosters will always be special to me,” he added.
Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, thanked 27 year-old Jennings – who scored a memorable try in the Roosters 2013 Premiership win – for his service to the Club.
“Jenko is a good man and I’ve loved coaching him. He’s had a big impact on the development of some of the younger players at the Roosters, and his contribution will live long in the memories of everyone associated with the Club,” said Robinson.
“I know I speak on behalf of everyone associated with the Roosters in wishing Jenko and his wife Kirra all the very best,” he added.
The Sydney Roosters would like to thank Michael for his service to the Club and wish him the best in his career moving forward.

The only reason we bought Jennings in the first place was because Penrith were paying a huge portion of his contract. Now that deal has expired we would be up for big money to retain him.
We got great value from him over the last few years and was a major reason for our recent success.Saying all that I think letting him go now is a brilliant business move by the club.
I have complete faith in Robbo and POS and I'm sure one of our young guys will step up.

I'm not sure if anyone here knows, but does "granting someone a release from the final year of their contract" mean that we do not have to pay anything to Jennings effective immediately?
