Hard to get excited about a Pearce x Hastings combo.

Who could the club be eyeing off?

A Carney come back would just about make my year.

      Surely not though...

Farrk no...he is way too injury prone now. He has just torn a pectoral last weekend in the ESL on top the numerous injuries he has had in the past 3 years.

Please no to Carney. That would be such a backward step. Apart from the fact he's a complete idiot, he is so injury prone these days.
But I have a very bad feeling we are going to lose Jimmy.

Carney and Fergo would be an explosive combo, off the field. Which is where they'll most likely be considering how injury prone they are.

I think we need some POS and Politis magic to bring someone in.

Without RTS we have a very slim chance of contending next year as we don't have a fullback.

Without Jimmy as well we will struggle to make the top 8.

Unless something dramatic happens our window will shut after 2015 and if we're lucky will re-open in 2017-18.

We simply must win the comp this year or else this golden era may well be remembered with regret just like the dominant 2002-2004 team.

To be fair throughout our history its usually been a window of 3-4 years to win premierships, then 2 decade or so of pain and suffering in between. So to get 2 of those windows in the space of a decade is actually pretty good.

At least thats what I'll tell myself when thinking back on this period..... Don't know if I'll believe it or not.

This year is an absolute bonus year anyway if we do manage to somehow make the GF or take it out. Last year was the year. We should have become the first team to go back to back, had the next best team on the rack in the prelim and a couple nuffies on the other side of the draw, and we choked.

I think half the problem is that in this era of a big salary cap, as soon as you develop 2 or 3 stars there is a scab club waiting in the wings with a 750k+ offer to steal them away when they're due an upgrade.

I'm amazed Souffs were able to retain their halves on about 800k combined, although I suspect good ole James Packer is providing a few kickbacks over there now.

To be fair they managed to sign them up when Reynolds was not in favour and got both of them secured prior to the halves value explosion that has happend this season with the DCE and Sezer contracts. Sezer's contract is the main one that has ruined halfback values for everyone, as he is only decent and is getting $500K, so really anything under $600K for an origin quality half has become an insult.

Its the same problem the Panthers are going to struggle with now this year with RTS's contract undoubtedly increasing what they'll have to offer to retain Moylan exponentially (hence why Gould has been kicking and stomping about "junior allowances" this year)

We have been that scab club in the past, so if we lose one we have developed, i can't really complain.

You might be right, but if our forwards keep rolling like they are at the moment, you could afford to have some developing players in the backs and still win a lot of games.

I'm looking at it like this - if we can win the comp this year, I'm happy to wait a year or two for the next one.

SYDNEY Roosters fear they may lose the game’s highest profile free agent James Maloney as the Titans consider their playing options for next year. Maloney’s manager Wayne Beavis says as many as four clubs have shown interest in the 2013 NSW Origin five-eighth, but wouldn’t be drawn on specific interest from the Titans.
We’re not confident, no,’’ Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan told The Courier-Mail.
We presented (an offer) as far as we could go, salary cap wise and we haven’t heard back for a couple of weeks.
“I wouldn’t say we are hopeful. We have our fingers crossed.’’

Cronulla and Manly have been reported to have been interested in Maloney and it has to be assumed Manly no longer has salary cap room for Maloney after upgrading Daly Cherry-Evans’s contract and spending $450,000 a year on Nate Myles.

The money Gold Coast set aside for Cherry-Evans to bring a new playmaker into the club and also another top-line players.

Maloney turns 29 on June 15, but brings his experience as a premiership playmaker in 2013 with the Roosters and a grand final player with the Warriors in 2011 to the table as credentials.

Canavan said there was no deadline imposed on Maloney to give an answer.

“We have been talking to his manager for several weeks now,’’ he said.

Other off-contract options for Gold Coast include Canterbury and NSW halfback Trent Hodkinson and Parramatta’s Chris Sandow.

Foundation Gold Coast halfback Scott Prince said earlier this week Maloney was a better choice for the Titans than off-contract Hodkinson in the wake of Cherry-Evans’s snub if they commanded similar remuneration.

Hodkinson’s asking price would likely rise if he is able to add a second Origin series win to his resume.
SYDNEY Roosters fear they may lose the game’s highest profile free agent James Maloney as the Titans consider their playing options for next year.

                            I'm excited about it.

Hastings is the real deal. Just like RTS always was but people were too caught up in their bias as to what they knew rather than the unknown.

I hope we can keep maloney. But I wouldn't be breaking the bank or sacrificing the clubs future success to keep him. I'd love to know what players we are looking at as a contingency plan. Not necessarily a replacement for maloney but rather where we are looking to bolster the squad.

Hastings although young and inexperienced has great vision and is a good defender when needed. With practice his goal kicking can be improved as well.
