  • NRL & South Sydney's shame

    Watch this video:

A RISING rugby league star who violently attacked his ex-girlfriend in a drunken jealous rage has faced court.

South Sydney Rabbitohs wing Kirisome Auva'a was in Melbourne for a friend's wedding when he turned up at his former girlfriend's home and attacked her.

The 22-year-old slipped unnoticed into Melbourne Magistrates Court today where he pleaded guilty to charges of recklessly causing injury and criminal damage.

He pushed her over, punched holes in walls at the home and swung her into a garage wall, fleeing before police arrived.

Once informed by the player, the Rabbitohs say they reported the incident to the NRL's Integrity United immediately on January 18 and stood the 22-year-old down from all club duties for a week and issued him with a $2000 fine.

Now this kid has fronted up and plead guilty, a good start but a 1 week ban in the off-season & petty 2k fine is as weak as it gets, both Souths & the NRL 'integrity' unit should be ashamed of their actions. That's less of a punishment than what Pearce got for getting booted from a night club.

I like Dave Smith, I think he's doing great things for the game especially off the field but at the moment this is his & the games big dark secret. I don't know if they think they can get away with it because he's a no-name but Dave Smith has dead set made a mockery of the White Ribbon Organisation & in the name of our great game. We deserve answers and it's a shame the media haven't pressed the powers that be on this one, instead they (both the media & NRL executives) seem to be more worried about the victim-less crimes of Konrad Hurrell & Todd Carney.

I'm a huge fan of what the White Ribbon do so if you get a chance check out their website & take the pledge, I don't think people actually realise just how prevalent domestic violence is.

    Did you know;

    - Over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence.
    - A woman is most likely to be killed by her male partner in her home.
    - Domestic and family violence is the principle cause of homelessness for women and their children.
    - Intimate partner violence is the leading contributor to death, disability and ill-health in Australian women aged 15-44.
    - One in three women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by someone known to them.
    - One in four children are exposed to domestic violence, which is a recognised form of child abuse.

So one club sacks a player for being a drunken idiot and pissing in his own mouth and this maggot bashes his girlfriend and gets a smack on the bottom.

If he'd been involved in a gang rape he'd get his own show.
    SUPER DRAGON!

      It's an absolute outrage, R6.

The way such a heinous crime has been virtually swept under the rug by Souths and the NRL is simply disgusting.

As you said, all parties involved should be ashamed and it just goes to show the power of media coverage.

The media doesn't care because he's not a big name and so, in return, neither seemingly do the NRL.

But look how fast they acted following the media's witch hunt of Pearce.

In the words of Derryn Hinch - shame shame shame.

I thought they set the bar with Lui. Was he not charged and found guilty of throwing his truckie singlet on and teeing off on his misses?
Was pretty much rubbed out of the game for a year. This poor excuse of a person needs the exact same ruling handed down to him. Come on Dave Smith, 1 rule for everyone

Well hey, it's the teacher's pet and co.
What else was to be expected?

Yep, some players can basically do as they please, while others get shafted.
All at the whim of NRL officials.

The NRL just died its slow death a bit faster.

have you tried contacting the NRL? they probably won't respond, or if they do it'll be a standard 'cheers for your concern but we cannont comment on that' line

Is this worth posting on the NRL Facebook or Twitter pages to raise awareness of the double standards?

I don't condone women bashers or any type of violence or sexual assault - yet many times I have thought the NRL is about looking after themselves what ever position they have - they are not into closing ranks like the ARL yet what they did to Stewart by leaving him out to dry before he even faced court. the NRL are pathetic and have such a history of poor management regardless of Smith - the game deserves better and so too the players who in my opinion not paid enough considering gate revenues tv rights and Sportsbet royaltis raised

To me it seems it all depends on how the media go after it.
The other interesting thing about this particular situation is, what really happened ?
I have heard some many varying reports from not a lot to not real good at all.

I'm amazed you posted this today as I was just talking to our company lawyers this morning about the lopsided attitude by the NRL and these amazingly inconsistent standards, specifically mentioning these cases. Robert Lui committed his first offence in the same week the White Ribbon Foundation sent me some marketing posters for my business with then Tigers coach Tim Sheens as the NRL's ambassador for that year (2010 it was). It's just not stopping and every Saturday the Sydney Morning Herald has been running weekly updates about government funding etc so shelters for women and children can stay open. So many are closing down, especially in rural areas, where families are isolated and everyone knows each other's business. Thanks for posting this R6. Even if a few members on here sign the pledge, it will be a help. I've been volunteering with the foundation on and off for 6 years now.

Complain all you want it will amount to nothing.

If the media haven't picked it up by now, it's a meh issue.

I agree with ya, that's why I'm saying don't waste your time.

                          Chook.

So good seeing the dog getting sent to the bin last night.

Footy gods know what's up even if the NRL want to pretend it never happened.
