Cayless was another one who took a long time to adjust to the faster game... it's mainly the mobility & lateral defence that they struggled with I just don't think the time was invested there with O'meley as it was with Cayless and Miller hence why he probably and unfairly in my opinion was one whose career was undone by the 2 referees.

Ryles is far from on the same dollars as Mase & O'meley were on to come here. In fact he is our bargain... he will/should be NSW starting prop although the idiots will no doubt leave him out of the side. The last series we won who was our starting prop? Coincidence? I doubt it. Logic seems to have escaped our selectors lately. Ryles unlike O'meley bases his game around being a work horse much like Price, Civo and our man Fitzy he'll prove that he's still as good as ever... it's players like Webcke who base their game on being an enforcer who usually retire early (although in saying that we should still bring Muz home )
Ryles doesn't deserve to be picked for NSW till he shows good form in the NRL. Playing glorified park footy, even just for a year, changes alot. Hoping he'll make it, but it's like those idiots picking Tahu in NSW teams - wait till he actually does something in the NRL.

So many things wrong here,.Webke is also a work horse like Civo if it wasn't for those 2 Brisbane would have really done quite poorly and Tallis would never have played for Australia (no there is a lazy bastard)

Ryles is only a bargain if he is on less than $150k but I doubt thats the case.

Ae you a QLDer ? Do you remember Ryles in SOO previously, he was rubbish.

I am quite happy to give Ryles a chance and I hope he does well, but for god sake he is not some super warhorse, he is an injury prone penalty giving hack

Webcke is nothing like Civo that's laughable... Webcke reminds me a lot of Moi Moi. A real hard prop who still gets the work done.

Yeh Ryles was rubbish when they moved him to the bench... before that he was immense for us, whilst QLD keep picking metre eating props lets keep picking backrowers, sounds good to me Willing to give him a chance yet one sentence later you call him a hack... seriously?

Webke got through alot of work and I wil lsay it again, if it wasn't for him and Civoniceva Brisbane would have been stuffed.

Ryles was never never never any good at any rep level football.

I am willing to hope and will admit it if it happens, that Ryles will perform, but based on his history I am not counting on it. I did not rate him at ST George and never liked when he was picked for rep football.

We will agree on one thing though, the most laughable stupid thing about NSW SOO has been the selectors

Ryles was never immense, especially at Origin level, he was absolutely monstered by Carl Webb. At club level, he had his moments but hardly set the world on fire. As evidenced by the fact that he couldn't get a gig in the NRL when his contract came up at the Dragons.

Not even going to start with Carl Webb but thanks for the humor this place has dried up a little lately.

As for him not being able to pick up a contract that's a very selective memory you have there... he was released at the end of the season when no clubs had any money, there were a few clubs trying to get him including Brian Smith's Knights but he received a huge offer from overseas and for whatever reason he decided to take that.

He got through a lot of work but so did O'meley... neither were in the same class as Civo though. Totally different players. I do agree though Brisbane were screwed without Civo and Webcke, it's a shame the way Civo was treated by Bennett when his contract was up... he deserved better.

When he played for the dragons i always thought he was very over rated.Hopefully he turns out to be a decent buy but there is no way he should be a walk up into the NSW side.

You're right we've got so many better options... which backrower will we play there this year?

I would rate Bailey,Weyman,Poore ect higher then Ryles.
Trust me i hope that Ryles turns into a good player for us but i think your overating him.Just my opinion

You even mentioning Weyman says it all... one decent season and now people think he's a top player.

And yes Mike I couldn't have said it better.

Although Poore to his credit showed he could handle the pace... I'd have him somewhere around the team.
