  • Why easn't the National anthems of both Australia & NZ played for the ANZAC game??

The AFL did it & I think that it was disrespectful that NZ didn't have their anthem sung. I'm not a Kiwi but just think that with so many Kiwi's playing in Australia it would have been a more respectful move.

I actually thought they did but may have been confused by the AFL. If they didnt, then they should have.
I love AFL as well as league and AFL always seem to get it right. Except for Meatloaf of course. 😁

      Totally agree.

Last time I checked, ANZAC stood for 'Australia and New Zealand Army Corps'.

Especially when there were 9 Kiwis involved in yesterdays game.

I thought the whole pre-game experience has been deteriorating for a number of years now.

This year was definitely the most uninspiring though.

It's our turn next year and I really hope we step it up.

Helicopter, Jets, both national anthems, a few Kiwi soldiers, a few kiwi flags, fireworks etc etc. Going to the Anzac day clash is about more than just the footy but I think the clubs are starting to take the crowds for granted.

They played the NZ anthem at the Storm/Warriors game. Not only that - the Warriors won

Why no jets, nor the helicopter. These are the memories my kids carry of previous years. Sadly missing. The worst was the Ch9 helicopter - just advertising not resepectful

I love it that the fuzzy wuzzy angels get recognition during proceedings. Very disappointing the kiwis weren't recognised through anthems or otherwise. Must be strange for a kiwi in such circumstances - standing there listening to the Aussie anthem to celebrate ANZAC day. I guess there is no obligation, but it would show respect, goodwill and mateship on a day where these words are spoken so often.

I was pumping up my daughter, showing her videos of black hawk helicopters and shit, and then they barred 'em.

It's all because of the 'almighty dollar'. I suspect the majority of these hob nob executives have absolutely no idea of history or what it means.

Quite simply, if it wasn't for the diggers very few (if any) of us would be here today.

I wondered for a while why the GF also has the anthem of Australia and not the NZ considering that there is a NZ side and NZ players.
